Farmer evangelist Angus Buchan confirmed today that both he and his wife Jill have tested positive for coronavirus.

They were tested last Saturday after it was discovered that five people from overseas who attended the recent Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast (JPB) in Bloemfontein had tested positive for the virus. Angus Buchan was a speaker at the event.

According to media reports Buchan says that despite the positive test results both he and his wife are not showing any symptoms and are in good health. They urge anyone who has been in contact with them to isolate themselves and to get tested if they start to display symptoms. They prayed for the good health of those who had been in contact with them.

The JPB on March 10 and 11, which was attended by approximately 200 people, took place before the prohibition of public gatherings of more than 100 people.

The leadership of the JPB say in a post on the Facebook page of Divine Restoration Ministries, Bloemfontein, whose venue was used to host the event, that overseas visitors who tested positive after the event did not present sick symptoms on arrival in South Africa and cleared the screening for signs of coronavirus at the entry port to South Africa.

After President Ramaphosa announced on the evening of Sunday March 15 that all international guests in the country should be tested before leaving, the JPB leadership took them for tests immediately on Monday morning of March 16. They were isolated immediately after the results came back positive on Wednesday March 18.

They also started contacting people who attended the JPB, as well as members of the church regarding testing.

In another post on the church’s website, the Free State Department of Health commends the church for its cooperation in testing people who might have been exposed to the virus.

We shall cling to Ps 91, in the shadow of the Almighty!!!

  2. Sorry Guys, Ive been noticing a worrying pattern with many Christians. Every time there is some threat or calamity looming , the church brings out Psalm 91 like some magic formula that will dispel and drive back anything ‘bad’ that threatens her peace and her mission. Its just not what David wrote that psalm for. I find it sad that Christians treat it like some mantra and panacea for every ill. We should know better than that.
