Revolution United Youth from Victory Ministries International responded to SANCA’s Drug Awareness Week (June 23 to 27, 2014) ‘Tie a yellow ribbon campaign’ call by infiltrating various areas of Nelson Mandela Bay with banners and yellow ribbons in tow.

The youth invasion in Gelvandale, New Brighton, North End and Bloemendal caused the community to sit up and hear the voice of the youth and reflect on statistics which show the prevalence of drug abuse amongst teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18.

On the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (Thursday, June 26, 2014), the Helenvale Resource Centre hosted an event at which Eastern Cape MEC for Social Development, Nancy Sihlwayi and various organisations addressed a crowd of about 750 people. Sihlwayi alluded to a Government managed in-patient drug rehabilitation centre that will be opened in New Brighton in 2015. The centre will cater for youth between 14 and 18 years old and willl offer holistic rehabilitation and therapeutic programmes in conjunction with various organisations.
