Children watch dancers from their community strutting their stuff. A speaker told the crowd that dance group Dejavu from Helenvale was on its way to the USA to compete in a contest. "You can do anything you want to do," said the speaker picking up on the theme of elevating the community's aspirations beyond the limitations imposed by crime and poverty. Displays by people from the community who had managed to establish viable businesses were set up in the area and kids and their parents were encouraged to chat to the entrepreneurs and learn how they had succeeded.
Police keep watch. Police participated in the event -- patrolling, preaching, praying, educating and just making friends with the locals.
