Ghanaian-based international healing evangelist Bishop Dag Heward Mills will be back in South Africa next week to lead “Healing Jesus Campaign (HJC)” crusades in the country in partnership with local churches. The latest campaign in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Free State and Northern Cape from November 18 to December 20 follows previous campaigns in SA in April 2015 and in 2014.
Gateway News met today with HJC Crusade Director, Rev Erasmus Mills-Thomson, who is currently in Port Elizabeth with the advance team which has been preparing the way ahead of medical doctor-turned crusade evangelist and prolific author, Dag Heward Mills, who has preached to crowds of up to half a million in one night and seen more than 10 million decisions for Christ since launching HJC in 2003.
“We are grateful to God for Reinhard Bonnke and Christ for all Nations who have been active in evangelising Africa for a long time. But we believe it is now the time for us to take the Gospel everywhere. We can’t just be at the receiving end,” said Rev Mills-Thompson.
Fleet of trucks
He said HJC has come to SA with a fleet of trucks from Ghana to carry the stage, lighting, sound system, generators, outside broadcasting unit and 10 000 chairs it has brought for its outdoor crusades. It has also brought 10 buses and will hire more local buses should the need arise. He said the fleet used in campaigns in West African nations is typically larger, comprising 45 vehicles and including 4-wheel drives to access rugged terrain. In West African campaigns they also set up a tented clinic to serve up to 5 000 people in areas lacking medical infrastructure. Finding venues large enough to accommodate mass open-air rallies has been a challenge in some countries and they have had to go so far as to clear part of a forest to make space.
Mills-Thompson, who is married with two young sons, has a degree in economics and management and trained as a pilot. In addition to being one of the Crusade Directors of HJC he is a member of the pastoral team of Heward-Mills’ church in Accra, Ghana.
He said Heward Mills received a call from God while he was at medical school and started a small fellowship. He qualified as a doctor in 1989 and in obedience to a call from God and with a passion for seeing souls saved he went into full time Christian ministry in 1990. The small fellowship grew into the Lighthouse Chapel church. The church grew and they established branches. Today there are nearly 2 000 Lighthouse Chapel International churches in 72 nations.

Miracles
He said Heward Mills says he never set out to establish churches and that he often stands back and watches what God, by His grace, has been doing through him. He has led evangelism campaigns all over the world, has seen “nearly all of the miracles recorded in the New Testament” at crusades, and is the author of more than 45 books of which there are currently about 10 million in print.
He said Heward Mills launched HJC in 2003 in response to a calling from the Lord to use the gifting He gave him not only to benefit his churches but to bless the Lord’s churches in many other areas.
“I believe by the grace of God there will be many more churches in South Africa after we are gone. Our vision is to strengthen local churches and help them achieve in a short time what would normally take a very long time,” Mills-Thompson said.
He said the many people who are expected to respond to Jesus at crusades will be released into local churches. Pastors’ conferences would also be held at crusade centres with the goal of empowering local leaders with some of the revelation from the Word of God that Heward Mills has gained in more than 30 years of ministry.
He said that HJC has been well-received by local church leaders in the areas where crusades are being held. One of the groups in Port Elizabeth that has got behind HJC is the Switched On movement which grew out of a citywide evangelism campaign in Nelson Mandela Bay in August 2015.
