In some quarters the bishop of Rome is considered infallible; in others, he’s considered irrelevant.

Pop singer Lady Gaga told Europe 1 radio that Pope Benedict XVI’s views on marriage are meaningless.

“What the Pope thinks of being gay does not matter to the world,” the gender-bending singer said. “It matters to the people who like the Pope and follow the Pope,” but “it is not a reflection of all religious people.”

Gaga was responding to the pope’s recent statement that “marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended,” because “whatever is injurious to them is injurious to society itself.”

“It’s a testimony to Lady Gaga’s gigantic ego that she dismisses warnings against homosexual ‘marriage’ by Pope Benedict—spiritual leader to more than a billion Catholics—as irrelevant,” Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth told LifeSiteNews.com. “Gaga invokes ‘humanity’ as somehow justifying same-sex ‘marriage,’ but in the same way couldn’t ‘humanity’ be used to normalize incestuous or multiple-partner ‘unions’?”

“More and more we will see high-profile attacks on biblical truth coming from the Religious Left,” LaBarbera predicted. “Even as radicals like Gaga become more brazen in subverting biblical teachings on sex and marriage, they know that they must keep up the pretense of religion to win over naive hearts and minds.”

“Sadly, the religion of Gaga and so many on the Libertine Left who reject God’s authority as Creator, is really the Worship of Me,” he said.

The singer, who is known for producing music videos that feature explicitly homoerotic and anti-Christian themes, said, “I think that gay marriage is going to happen. It must.”

Jeff Field, communications director of the Catholic League, told LifeSiteNews.com the singer’s comments represented a form of “ignorance.”

He noted Lady Gaga, who was born Stefani Germanotta, has based her career on assaulting Christianity, especially the Roman Catholic Church. “This is coming from the same girl who has swallowed rosaries, dressed as a sado-masochistic nun, and offended other Catholic sensibilities throughout her career,” he said.

Yet not everyone is offended. The Obama administration has made no secret of its collaboration with Gaga in spreading the homosexualist message.

A State Department fact sheet boasted that it “helped convince pop artist and LGBT advocate Lady Gaga to perform at EuroPride Rome in June 2011.” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took great pride in the dubious accomplishment.

President Barack Obama’s closest adviser, Valerie Jarrett, has written that she was “deeply moved” by the pop singer’s activism.

  1. Lady? Gaga is going to have a lot to answer for. We must pray for her. We must not listen to nor buy her CD’s. ( I almost said ‘music’) She is a disgusting disgrace and I will not waste any more of my time making comments about her.
