‘Mighty Families’ launching on Bloemfontein farm which hosted ‘It’s Time’ prayer day

South Africa’s first Mighty Families conference — a movement aimed at restoring and strengthening families — will be held near Bloemfontein in March next year on the same farm which hosted the It’s Time prayer day in May which was led by Angus Buchan and attended by about a million people.

There will be camping place for 20 000 families on the farm Wildeals, which belongs to former Springbok rugby player Ollie le Roux, and single people will be welcome to attend, said Dr Arno van Niekerk, a senior economics lecturer at the University of the Free State and author of the book Enough! at a press conference in Bloemfontein this week. Van Niekerk is the chairman of the Mighty Families organising committee.

The concept of the Mighty Families conference was inspired by the Mighty Men conferences founded by Angus Buchan which have been impacting men powerfully over the past 14 years during a weekend of camping in which they encounter God. Buchan has given his blessing to the launch of Mighty Families which is independent of his Shalom Ministries which will continue to oversee Mighty Men conferences around the country.

The inaugural Bloemfontein Mighty Families event will take place from Friday March 16 to Sunday March 18 2018. The ultimate vision is to hold Mighty Families conferences in different parts of the country around the core idea of healing families, seeking to restore marriages that are breaking down, and to bring the hearts of children and their parents.

Various nationally-recognised Christian speakers — both men and women of all races — will be invited to lead teaching sessions at Mighty Family conferences. Praise and worship at the first conference in March will be led by Heinz Winckler and his wife Alette. There will also be opportunities for prayer and counseling.

Mighty Families aims to contribute to the healing of South Africa, bringing reconciliation between different races in the context of family and marriages, said Van Niekerk,
