chasing-grace A tragic accident threatens to destroy a pastor’s family and sets into motion a complex betrayal between two brothers, while exposing secrets no one wants to face. Pastor Jonathan Matheson lives in a world of black and white, yet finds a way to navigate the “grey in-between” to work to his advantage, while facing one of the most tragic moments of his life. Set in small-town America and woven inside a tale of redemption, “Chasing Grace” is a story of how one family takes on the burden of guilt in order to make sense of their loss. While pointing the finger of blame at his brother, Pastor Jonathan also chooses to hide from the truth while trying to escape his own personal demons. “Chasing Grace” is loosely based upon true events and provides a powerful story about the redeeming power of forgiveness.

Dove Review
“Chasing Grace” is about a family almost torn apart by tragedy and grief. Jonathan Matheson pastors a strong church and has a loving family — his wife Angela, sons Chris and David, and daughter Grace, who is about 10. They celebrate Grace’s birthday with a party, but then something goes terribly wrong. In the aftermath, the same pastor that just preached about forgiveness has to learn to practice the very thing he preached, and he must confront a side of himself that no one knows about, except for his brother. However, the pastor is not portrayed as a hypocrite, but as a man struggling with a weakness and trying to deal with extraordinary pressures and stress. Drinking is his battle.

The likable Mathesons are portrayed as a normal family, trying to cope and realizing that their faith in God is what they need to cling to. We are pleased to award this film our Faith Friendly 12+ Seal. “Chasing Grace” is more about grace chasing us…and finding us. –  www.dove.org

DADDY’S HOME
Movie Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeknNwE4e1E
PG – 13L – Not Recommended for Families

Synopsis:
daddys-homeA mild-mannered radio executive strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading real father arrives, forcing the stepdad to compete for the affection of the kids.

Dove Review:
“Daddy’s Home” contains a few laugh-out-loud moments and a positive statement about an ex-husband getting along with the wife’s current husband for the sake of the children. Dusty Mayron (Mark Wahlberg) comes back into the life of his ex-wife, Sara (Linda Cardellini), with the idea to win her back from her new husband Brad Whitaker (Will Ferrell), as well as their two kids. However, Brad is an easy-going and very likable guy, and despite his efforts to sabotage Brad, Dusty can’t help but like him.

Eventually the two “dads” might possibly become co-dads. The film features a comedic theme that Dusty and his friend Griff both move in with Brad and his family and make themselves completely at home. Griff (Hannibal Buress) is good for some laughs: for example, he asks if he is allowed to eat something he is already eating, just to be polite.

However, the film is crude and contains many sexual jokes and comments. At the screening I attended, a father walked out with his daughter who was probably around 10 years old. “Daddy’s Home” is not a movie for kids and, due to the sexual and language content, does not earn our Dove “Family-Approved’ Seal. – www.dove.org
