My dearest old friend — Angus Buchan

A monthly column by farmer, preacher and writer for Jesus, Angus Buchan

When I have been at my absolute lowest ebb, my friend was there for me. When I needed godly counsel that no man could offer me, my dearest old friend was there to direct me; He wiped my eyes and healed my broken heart in times of great pain and personal tragedy.

In times of extreme loneliness, I could turn and find solace, comfort and friendship, for my faithful friend was there!

“Who is this friend you are speaking about?,” you very well might ask.

It is the Holy Bible, of course, and without it I could not live another single day. Indeed, it has become a friend to me that sticks closer than a brother(Proverbs 18:24).

It is in fact, Jesus in print. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. — John 1:1.

So, the next time an atheist says to you show me this Jesus you’re always talking about, give him a Bible!

Let us remember God’s Holy Word with much fondness and tenderness and take some valuable time to read it.

  1. Dear “Oom” Angus.
I thank you from the bottom of my sinful but redeemed life that you are still pursuing your life’s goal and that is encouraging people and spreading the gospel. People call you a fundamentalist but, then, so am I. I believe what the Bible says although some parts are a bit of a puzzle. It does detract from the basic teachings.
Keep up the excellent work and may you enjoy a long and prosperous life with Jill, your children and, especially, your grandchildren. They are God’s gift to us old folks.
    Blessings from Bellville,

  2. Amen!
Amen ! All scripture is given by the inspiration of God and is a mandatory, essential and absolute requirement for those things we affirm and believe to be true. It brings reproof, conviction and censure in our lives. It can take anyone — including those who have been knocked flat on their backs in life — and it can set them back on their feet again, regardless of how long they have been down and out. The word of God will make them once again stand erect and upright. It will put them back on level ground, fully equipping them to successfully live life by a higher standard that leads to upright, godly, clean living. An interpretive translation by Rick Renner of 2 Timothy 3:16.
