Church leaders in Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Despatch) have been urged by PE’s Anglican Bishop, Bethlehem Nopece, to participate in a SaveSA rally at Dan Qeqe Stadium, Zwide on Thursday April 27.
In a letter on behalf of the city’s church leaders he calls on churches to attend a march at 8.30am, prayers, and addresses on the economic implications of President Zuma’s latest cabinet reshuffle and alleged state capture.
Referring to the Kairos Documents drawn up by church leaders in the mid-eighties he says God requires His people “to exercise mercy, to act justly especially for the poor, the widow orphans and oppressed, and walk humbly before God! (Micah 6:8)” — and to “obey God rather than people as the first apostles did (Acts 5:29)”.
“Let us be fervent in prayer for South Africa! Promises have been made close to every election, thereafter everything people were assured of falls between the cracks.
“Let us not be fooled by the charisma and the charm of current governing authorities with their lies, corruption and empty promises that our votes afford them to continue looting state resources every five-year period.
“We are called to pray for those in authority, for good godly governance, for peaceable living and the salvation of all from squalor living, poverty, hunger and unemployment, with free access to the market economy and the true freedom of the children of God both spiritually and physically.

“This is a matter of fact. May God save us from racism and tribalism, pride prejudice and hypocrisy!” Nopece says, calling on leaders to encourage their members to attend the rally next Thursday.
