PE Christian artist invited to London

Port Elizabeth Christian ceramic artist, Bentley van Wyk, has been invited to exhibit his work on an international platform at the well-known Tanya Baxter Contemporary Gallery in Chelsea, London.

The proud alumni of NMMU School of Design, who also exhibited his work at the 2015 Emerging Design Indaba in Cape Town, will showcase a 40 piece collection alongside other talented South African artists. He will be the only representative from PE.

Van Wyk’s unique stamping technique has opened many doors for this gifted creative who says to date he has worked exclusively with earthenware and porcelain clay.

He believes that working with clay has the potential to rehabilitate people back to Christ.

“It’s a chastening process working with clay. Each piece I have created has been inspired by the Holy Spirt – we hope it will minister to you and give God glory,” he said.

Coming from humble beginnings Van Wyk says his environment pushed him to break out of a poverty victim mindset. He is the first in his family to graduate from university and he intends to encourage youth to explore the creative arts and become positive role models in their communities.
