Prayer, pickets, marches for 21st anniversary of abortion on demand

Last year’s Cape Town March for Life.

Thursday February 1 marks the 21st anniversary of abortion on demand in South Africa — a period which has seen more than 1.5 million babies legally killed with taxpayers’ money.

Christian events in response to this landmark date include:

Mass in Cape Town
The Catholic Parliamentary Liaison Office will host Holy Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday February 1 at 1.10pm, to mark the anniversary of the passage through parliament of the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act in 1997, and to pray for a change of heart on the part of all who disregard the rights of unborn children. The Mass is open to all.

March and rally in Cape Town
On the same day Africa Christian Action will host a March for Life to parliament followed by a prayer rally outside parliament. The procession — in the form of a funeral procession — will gather at the Keizersgracht parking lot below Cape Peninsula University of Technology (and near to the wall painting of an African woman) and march down Darling Street, left into Buitenkant Street, then into Plein Street. Marchers should meet in Keizersgracht Street by 12.30pm and are asked to dress in black. The prayer rally outside the gates of parliament (at the corner of Roeland and Plein Streets) will be from 1pm to 1.30pm. A short memorial service and wreath laying ceremony will be held in memory of babies killed by abortion in South Africa since 1997.

Sanctity of life picket in East London
There will be a peaceful picket protest on the corner of Oxford Street and St Matthew’s Road on Saturday February 3 from 11am to 12pm in support of the silent victims of abortion on demand. (Contact Frans 082 774 6649
or Lester 079 941 2277).

The organisers of the East London picket say: “There are over 150 000 churches in South Africa. There are about 300 000 ministers in the country. If just half of them could be inspired to study what the Word of God says on when life begins and what abortion is; if only half the churches in South Africa observed Sanctity Life Sunday (January 29) then we could begin to end the legalised killing of babies in South Africa.

  1. 23h THE PRO-LIFE SONG or RAP

God of Justice, God of Love,
    twin these virtues from above,
form them in this world below,
that all people soon will show
    justice, love to all.

    Justice for the innocent,
killed without their own consent, taken from their mother’s womb,
    taken from their cosy home,
    justice is denied.

    Love for helpless humankind,
    all their rights now undermined.
Adult power is cruel and wild
When it’s used against a child ~ love evaporates.

God of Justice, God of Love,
You in Christ came from above.
    Mary had the courage to
see her pregnancy right through ~
    Loving Justice won!
