Prayer rally to seek divine intervention in serious PE gang violence

A prayer rally to seek God’s intervention in serious gang violence in Port Elizabeth’s Northern Areas will be held from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday May 26 on the sports ground in Bethelsdorp Extension 31.

Apostle Donovan Arends of Life Abundant Ministries, who says God spoke to him about organising the event, said understaffed police were doing their best to fight the longstanding crime problem that was costing the lives of many innocent children — and it was now time for the Church to stand up and address the crisis.

“I am planning this rally so that we can approach our Heavenly Father to intervene. Our God is the only one who can stop this violence. And if the Chruch will stand in one accord then all things are possible through Christ Jesus,” he said.

He said he and pastors in the Bethelsdorp area, which was one of the areas most affected by the drug-driven gang violence, have invited local churches, high school and primary school communities which were directly impacted by the violence, police — including the national and provincial police commissioners, and the mayor, to attend the rally.

They also planned to invite Christian leaders from other parts of the city to attend the rally.

“We hope to see big numbers at the rally — with as many prayer warriors as possible from right across Nelson Mandela Bay,” Arends said.

“We will pray for the police; for an end to gangsterism; we will pray for schools — we are going to anoint children’; we are going to stand in a corporate way before the Lord.”

He said the organising committee also decided to arrange a special prayer session at the event for all parents who had lost children through gang violence.

May God hear these and all our other prayers regarding the Violence engulfing our country – especially gang-violence.

I note “Apostle Donovan Arends of Life Abundant Ministries says God spoke to him about organising the event”. Just exactly HOW does God speak to us today? The Bible tells us God spoke objectively to Moses at the Mercy Seat, by casting the Urim & Thumim lots, by prophets, by visions and dreams. Exactly HOW did God speak to Donovan? To others who affirm God speaks to them today? Is this a subjective feeling in one’s spirit? Or is there objective evidence?
