Thousands of Christians all over the country gathered in small groups at homes, churches, schools, universities, businesses, and various other public places on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, to pray for South Africa.

A recent increase in social unrest, economic decline, moral decay of the Church, and various other factors played a role in a nation-wide call to all Christians to repent before God for our sins  to ask God to heal our land, and to give us peace among our people

This call was not made by one particular group/organisation, but was called for by a simple message a few weeks ago that quickly went viral on social media.  All over there is a stronger and more desperate call for Christians to arise and seek the face of God for spiritual awakening.

This desperation is manifesting in various prayer initiatives currently running in the country. Among these, we saw the seven weeks of non-stop prayer for revival, 30 August – 18 October, resulting in more than 450 local churches/schools/etc. that each committed to one of these seven weeks. This is part of a 7-year call to continuous 24/7 prayer for revival, salvation & social justice. Since January 2013, more than 2000 local churches/groups have taken part in this initiative, called “7 Days on the Wall”. We also saw the “National Day of Repentance”, held on October 13, in Bloemfontein.

A student at the Tygerberg Campus of Stellenbosch University shared this testimony from the prayer day yesterday: “We had a powerful time of prayer at Tygerberg Hospital with fellow students, last night. When we were about to finish our prayer with the group from our church (all African people), another group (mainly whites) came to join us.  No one invited them. They said the Spirit lead them to come and join us. This other group were praying at another venue on the same campus and they were also praying fro the nation. It was really amazing, because this was the first time for these people to pray together. And at the end they were encouraging each other to unite in praying together regularly.  There was really such joy after this meeting!” (See video clip below.)

Inspired to keep on praying
One group of Christians in Bellville has decided to keep on praying every evening at 7pm for the next 10 days. Another church in Paarl decided to cancel normal church activities and to rather spend every night in prayer for the nation until the end of the year!

We want to call on various churches and groups of Christians all over the nation to consider the following:

  • Setting one evening per week aside to have a corporate prayer meeting praying for revival in the Church and the nation to turn to God. (Guidelines below)
  • Choose one week within the next few months to have daily prayer for revival, salvation & social justice. More info at globalprayerwatch.org/7days. Special prayer guides available at watch@jwipn.com.

Prayer Guidelines:

  • Pray that the people of this nation will acknowledge that Jesus is Lord and will submit to His Lordship. “So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11). “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.  (Romans 14:11).
  • Pray that God will reveal to every Christian the deceit, the rebellion and corruption in our own hearts and for a willingness to acknowledge it and confess it. “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds” (Jeremiah 17:9-10).  “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight” (Psalms 19:14).
  • Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. “And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31).
  • Let us ask God for the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives and also for his guidance. “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” (Galatians 5:16-17) “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” (Isaiah 11:2)

  1. Unless we repent and then pull down the strongholds over this nation, God cannot respond to our prayers … Google Lydia Mirembe, a Ugandan intercessor, and the prophetic warning through her on August 20, 2014 at Jericho Prayer conference ! A complete eye opener !
