Two organisations with a long history of serving communities and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ around the world, African Enterprise* and the Luis Palau Association*, as well as several other organisations and individuals, are behind a new venture that they hope will bring about winds of revival in Cape Town.

Planning for the Love Cape Town City Fest, happening over three weekends from November 2 to 16 in the Mother City has been gaining momentum since more than 300 people attended a pastors’ conference last month in preparation for the event.

Theuns Pauw, SA team leader of African Enterprise says: “This is a call to all brothers and sisters in Christ to unite for the sake of the Gospel in our great city of Cape Town. We need you to start praying for a friend who needs the Lord and invite them to an event where they will encounter Jesus.

“God has called us to evangelise the cities of Africa through word and deed, in partnership with the Church. We need to take the Gospel to schools, hospitals, prisons, factories, marketplaces and from door-to-door. The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few.”

He says that equipping sessions will be held in the build-up to the November Love Cape Town City Fest for believers who would like to heed the call.

Pastor Barry Isaacs, director of Transformation Africa explains that the invitation to be part of the Gospel campaign is for all believers. “We are inviting the Church across denominational and cultural lines to join us at the November and preceding events,” he states.

At the pastors’ conference, held at the West Reach Assembly of God Church in Mitchell’s Plain on July 23 and 24, Pauw said that every believer has been entrusted with the commission to go and make disciples. All believers were encouraged to make a fresh start and commit to four things: make worshipping Jesus Christ their number one priority in life (Psalm 2:8); commit to multiplication, as disciples make other disciples (Ephesians 4:11-13); commit to GO and spread a message of reconciliation, so that communities can be restored (2 Corinthians 5: 17-21); and commit to pray for lost hearts, more labourers in God’s vineyard and a boldness to speak (Luke 18).

Pastor David Chigamba of the Luis Palau Association in Malawi, meanwhile, encouraged those at the conference to increase their “invitation power”, quoting Jeremiah 1: 11-12. Chigamba said that it is God’s desire that the Church reach out, which implies that believers must open their eyes, as Jeremiah was required to do when God asked him what he saw.

“We have all we need in God who supplies in abundance. He wants to increase our invitation power. The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. He has set it before us – God says, ‘I am watching over my word!’ We are to be moved by the heart of God,” Chigamba urged, adding: “What are we focussing on? A church that does not focus on evangelism and the saving of souls and winning the lost is in danger.”

According to Chigamba, churches exist for others. “It is time to help God’s people to understand God’s calling for disciples to make other disciples. Evangelism is a process to teach how to increase our power of invitation,” was the audible cry of his heart. Believers were given practical advice to list five names of friends and/or family who do not know Christ, then pray, contact and build a friendship with them, and invite them to church.

The Love Cape Town City Fest in November will take place on the 2nd in Mitchell’s Plain, on the 9th in Khayelitsha and on the 16th on the Grand Parade. Upcoming events ahead of the November meetings are a Youth Vision sharing event on Saturday (August 24), a friendship evangelism training of trainers session on September 13 and 14 and a counsellors orientation gathering on October 26.
