Provinces dedicated to Jesus in run-up to national dedication

A systematic campaign to dedicate South Africa to Jesus by the end of the year is gaining momentum as provinces pave the way with regional dedication events.

KwaZulu-Natal was the first province to dedicate itself to Jesus — at a ceremony on April 21. Mpumalanga will be dedicated to the Lord at two events — at Ermelo and Mbombelo (Nelspruit) on Saturday (May 26).

The national prayer initiative was provoked by the African National Congress’s dedication of South Africa to ancestors at its centenary celebrations in January.

Other confirmed prayer dedication dates are:
June 9 – Eastern Cape (Bhisho)
June 23 – Free State (Bloemfontein)
July 21 – Limpopo (Polokwane)
September 15 – Northern Cape (Kimberley)

The initiative will culminate with the dedication of South Africa to Jesus on December 2, at the Union Buildings, Pretoria.

The organisers of the initiative, the SA Prayer Movement for Change and the Institute for Christian Leadership Development, say the dedication will facilitate evangelism, fast track answers to prayers, increase the possibilities of righteous and ethical political leaders and generally provide the spiritual infrastructure necessary for transformation.

The regional prayer dedications have been preceded by briefing consultations.

“The response at the consultations has been very good and people are understanding the urgency of the church coming together before God in this matter,” said Eastern Cape spokesperson for the initiative, Laurette Mkati.

Reporting back on the Eastern Cape dedication at Bhisho on April 27, Mkati said: “Around 90 leaders met together from around the province to listen to the purpose of the project.  It became clear that this was from God especially in view of the January dedication made by the ruling party invoking the spirits of the ancestors.  The date was agreed as Saturday 9th June and the venue Bhisho Stadium.  The day will commence at 10 am and people have been tasked to mobilise the church from all six districts of the province from every people group.”

21-day fast
She said participants in the Eastern Cape prayer dedication were encouraged to prepare by fasting for 21 days from May 20 to June 9.

In an invitation letter to the EC Prayer Dedication, the organisers say “dedicating SA to the ancestors will have dire consequences for everyone, unless we supersede this action by dedicating SA to the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Referring to the ANC’s dedication of the country to ancestors, the letter says: “This action affects not only the spiritual climate of a nation but also the moral, political and economic health of any country. 6 January was not only political but also spiritual and to whom has God given Spiritual Authority, if not the Christians?”
