Revelation, understanding and application of prophetic words — Marian Fitz-Gibbon

As prophetic ministers it’s glorious to receive downloads from God but that’s only the beginning process.

Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. — Proverbs 24:3-4

Receiving divine revelation
We use the term revelation to refer to the prophetic information that one receives from God. The Holy Spirit can give us the prophetic information in a variety of ways including prophetic impressions, dreams, open visions, the audible voice of God, trances, experiences in the third heaven, through the word of God, prophetic art, drama , music, writing and so forth.

Prophetic information about a person or situation does not automatically come with the wisdom or power to bring a change to that person or situation. The person may need to go through a process of renewal of the mind, forgiveness or healing.

The release of God’s power is often a separate operation of the Holy Spirit. For instance, someone may prophetically discern an illness through a word of knowledge. The Lord has said He will heal the sick and the oppressed. We trust the Lord to heal the person, we release the healing word of the Lord to the person.

We are living in a kairos time of wonderful healings, so I would encourage you to pray for as many people as you can for all kinds of illnesses.

Understanding
Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream. Not so with My servant Moses. . . . I speak with him face to face, even plainly, and not in dark sayings. — Numbers 12:6–8

To aid you with the symbolic and mysterious elements of a vision or a dream it’s helpful to have a good dream dictionary, a concordance, bible and a notebook.

Revelation often comes in bits and pieces, and we also need understanding from the Lord to make sense of the revelation.

Paul states in the context of supernatural knowledge and prophecy that we prophesy in part (1 Cor. 13:9).

Jesus often spoke in parables to hide truth so that only those hungry for God would gain understanding.

He said: “I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand” — Matt. 13:13.

In the same way, the Holy Spirit often speaks to us prophetically in dreams and visions using parables. Only those who are desperate to know God’s heart will understand what He is saying.

Write your dream or prophetic word down, sketch it. Look up scripture to unpack it. It can be so helpful to look up the meaning of words in your dream dictionary and in the Hebrew dictionary — all the while being prayerful. You will be surprised how led of the Lord you will be.

Delivering or receiving a prophetic word
Keep a balance between being confident and too cautious in delivering and receiving a prophetic word. Often we do and are not supposed to fully understand the revelation until the circumstances unfold that actually brings its fulfillment.

God purposefully gives the information in a dark saying or parables. Try to resist the temptation to manufacture the interpretation before it is clear.

A personal example: it was once said to me I was too clever for my own spiritual good.

At the time I received the word I was so pleased that my years of studies were of value!! Little did I know that as the years went by these monuments and icons would all have to bow their knee to revelation and dark sayings for the sake of God’s people and I would be joyful and as a fool for Christ in the face of intellectualism.

Recently I had my ‘brilliant’ sermon all ready for a particular place. Words of knowledge listed as I had seen Shawn Boltz and Julian Adams in Dubai. I was going to give them a heaven to earth experience.

Well, a lady gets up before me on the Sunday morning and gives a testimony that would have the dead turn in their graves. The people clapped. It was my turn up!!!

I had to pull on every God-given gift in me to raise the faith. All I could hear the Lord say: “Think like a child!”

I began dramatising the word God had given me. From the valley of dry bones of South Africa 2016 and dry mielies to rain in 2017, clapping and tapping and the sharing of crops.

The people of Bokisi were rejoicing and laughing at the goodness of the Lord. The love of the Father was released with healings to specific back problems, persistent headaches and even the little children came up for learning conditions.

rejoicing
Encountering the Lord at Bokisi.

If I had held onto my perfect interpretation of which, I dare to say, was 15 pages long – the people would not have connected with God, healings would not have taken place and lives would not have been touched.

You will develop your own barometer or gauge to know when you are meddling with an interpretation, or for the same if someone else is going off course and putting their own interpretation to a revelation. I get a strange feeling in the pit of my tummy.

Application
When it comes to the fulfilment of a prophecy, what should I do? Application is the practical action that we are to take as we respond in faith to the revelation and its interpretation. In the example shared, I guess I wasn’t taken by surprise, that’s why I felt no fear nor anxiety. I was well prepared. As Paul Manwaring said – it’s the years of training that the Lord used. In my case Speech & Drama in the hands of the Lord brought heaven to earth. Ask, Who is this for? Who should share it? How much should be shared? When should we share it? Why? What’s the desired impact? What mind-sets do we want to see change? How do you want it shared? How much unity, purity and growth of God’s people will occur?

We can have the most fantastic time with the prophetic ministry by being well prepared, have your foundations well in place, have a great team, well prayed for beforehand. Be creative (not necessarily artsy) and adaptable.
