DUNAMIS –No Place Like Home

‘No Place Like Home’ is a praise and worship CD/DVD from the worship team of the ‘Dunamis International Family Church’ based in Germiston, South Africa.

The Dunamis band started recording their songs and making CDs in response to a prophetic word and the call that God has placed on their church to touch the nations with the songs that they write.

The heart behind the band is to impact our generation through worship, facilitating intimate times with our King, and to ignite passion to bring about more of His Kingdom on this earth. They want their music to inspire us with the truth that we are indeed unstoppable and for us to worship from the Throne Room of God in Spirit and in truth. Their dream is that people will be touched and changed and that nations will be influenced through their CDs.

‘No Place Like Home’ is their fourth CD release. It has 10 tracks on the CD and has 2 music videos and a documentary on the DVD.

The songs on the CD have all been written and composed by members of their church. The lyrics have a strong Word base focusing on God, His greatness and who we are in Him. To qualify a part of this statement here are the chorus lyrics to Track 1, ‘Unstoppable’, on the CD: ’Nothing’s gonna stop us now, we are the people of God and this is His hour. Lifting up the King of kings, to You our praises we bring……Jesus!’

The songs vary in pace, with some interesting and different compositions. Some of the tunes are catchy and one finds oneself singing along. In some tracks they have mingled the sounds of the synthesizer (sometimes too much) with the electric guitar to create an interesting mix of more ‘heavier’ worship songs. While this is a worship album not all the songs can be easily used within a church worship context.

Pastor Wentzel du Plessis’s (Worship pastor and lead vocalist) vocals are very strong, deep and clear. Some constructive criticism would be that they should feature other voices as the slower songs would have suited a less deep and powerful voice as his seems, at times, out of place.

The DVD’s two music videos, ‘Unstoppable’ and ‘No Place Like Home’ were produced by professionals in the film industry who are also members of Dunamis International Family Church. Included is also a documentary which features interviews with the band members and their senior pastors. It gives a good glimpse into their hearts, explains what true worship is and the kind of worship our King seeks. It also contains the powerful message behind the title track of the album, ‘There’s No Place Like Home’.
