Seeing things in perspective

[notice]A fortnightly devotional based on everyday experiences.[/notice]

Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective. Colossians 3:1-2 (MSG)

“Two tweets, people!” exclaimed my friend telling us what happened at work that day.

“We were having crisis meetings all day over two tweets out of thousands of compliments complaining about our service.

I couldn’t believe it.

I wanted to shout, “Perspective People! I wanted to remind them of my friend I had dinner with who had a patient die on her table that day.”

I could completely relate to what my friend was saying.

Have you ever been in the middle of a situation that just feels out of control like that? Like everyone has lost perspective on what the real problem is and is focusing on something that doesn’t really matter?

It made me think about how often we do that in our daily lives and how often God must want to stop and shout, “Perspective People!”

I can imagine God standing there like my friend saying:

“Take your eyes off the problem in front of you, and ask Me to open your eyes to the way I see what is going on around Christ.
Slow down, look up, and you’ll see things from My perspective. You will see that I’ve got your back and I’ve got this under control.
Breathe for a moment, look at Me and you’ll see that I’m working all things out for My purposes and your good.”

What do you need to do today to take your eyes off your problem and on to God? Ask God to show you his perspective on the problem.
