The validity of the Word of God — Angus Buchan

A monthly column by farmer, preacher and writer for Jesus, Angus Buchan

Like never before I really believe God’s Word is being compromised by a rebellious people.

I looked up the word “validity”. It means “actually supporting the intended point or claim”.

If we look at the Word of God in John 1:14 (NKJV) the Bible states very clearly: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” In other words, Jesus Christ is the Word, He is the Bible, if someone says to you show me this man called Jesus whom you worship then give them a Bible.

It concerns me greatly when I see people tampering with the Word of God. You see in Matthew 24 :35 Jesus says: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” That is how important the Word is and that is why the devil is hell bent on watering down, and compromising God’s Holy Word.

The importance and the severity of keeping the undiluted word cannot be highlighted enough. Matthew 5:18-19 (NKJV) says: “18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” A jot or a tittle means a full stop or a stroke.

The Word of God must never be in any way changed. It is absolutely vital that the Word of God remains intact. For us as believers, it is our compass, it is our direction finder, it is our mandate. I always say, tongue in cheek, it is my agricultural manual, but I can honestly tell you my dear friend in my days when I was actively farming, this book taught me more than any agricultural book I ever received from agricultural college.

The only reason I can come up with, that people are so casual about the Bible is because they do not understand how important God’s Holy Word is in these Last Days in which we are living. Luke 16:17 (NKJV) says: “17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail.” We really need to understand the importance of preserving the Word of God in its entirety.

15th century Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cranmer said: “The Word of God is above the church.” and for that statement he was literally burned at the stake. That is how much the devil hates and fears the Word of God. Charles Haddon Spurgeon said: “The Bible, the whole Bible, and nothing but the Bible is the religion of Christ’s church.”

Richard Pratt said: “God demands complete loyalty to His word.” We really need to get back to basics as Bible believers and we really need to stand up and be counted. We are too silent about the authority of God’s Word. No one is qualified to rewrite the Bible, you cannot bend the laws in the Bible to suit your own particular lifestyle. What God has said, He meant.

St Augustine said: “The faith will totter.” If the authority of the Holy Scriptures loses its hold on men we will be deceived. We must surrender ourselves to the authority of Holy Scripture for it can neither mislead nor be misled.

God bless you as you stand up for truth and righteousness

  1. Well said br Angus. It is shocking to see how even the church are discarding and ignoring clear provisions set by the Holy Spirit in the Holy Scriptures as it suits them.

Well said my brother. As an Afrikaans born-raised-speaking South African who loves the Lord dearly, I am utterly dismayed with the way in which the Afrikaans leg (I cannot speak for the English side) of the “Bybelgenootskap van Suid-Afrika” apparently was high-jacked by the enemies of the Cross, when allowing the socalled “Nuwe Afrikaanse Bybel (1983)” to become so prominent in South Africa, while it reeks with falsehoods because of being based on erroneous, distorted manuscripts.
