GOD TV broadcasting meetings from next week
The Healing Awakening meetings with Canadian evangelist Todd Bentley that began in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal in early April will start up in Cape Town tomorrow evening (Wednesday, June 5), GOD TV Global Communications Officer, Al Gibson confirmed today.
He said GOD TV will not immediately start broadcasting the meetings in Cape Town but will follow its usual practice of allowing some time for the event to get going before coming in with its cameras. According to a GOD TV media release, the network plans to televise the Cape Town meetings from next week.
GOD TV has provided extensive live coverage of Healing Revival services at Tongaat from April 12 and in Pretoria from mid May until May 26. The high cost of broadcasting the meetings live to a global audience are presumably a factor in GOD TV’s decision to put an initial hold on screening from Cape Town. The network says it has been showing what has been happening in South Africa to a potential global audience of 860 million.
Bentley, who took some time out in Egypt last week will be leading the Healing Awakening meetings at the Lofdal World Prayer Centre, Bella Vista Road (off Old Paarl Road), Kraaifontein, Cape Town, nightly at 7pm, from tomorrow (Wednesday, June 5). From next week the meetings will be held from Tuesday to Sunday. According to a publicity poster on Bentley’s Facebook page, the Cape Town meetings will continue until Sunday, June 16.
“God wants to release an impartation of His anointing on your Life,” says Bentley, in a post on the GOD TV website, announcing the move to Cape Town and encouraging people to attend the services.
GOD TV reports that “in 49 days of Revival, 11 000 decisions have been made for Christ as the world sees a demonstration of God’s presence, power and authority”.

“The network has received thousands of prayer requests as well as e-mails sharing how people have been supernaturally healed. Churches have set up large screens to televise the broadcasts and over 1 700 homes have registered to share the Awakening in home groups,” says GOD TV in a media release. It says many of the healings were medically verified.

THE MARK OF a MATURE BELIEVER

The mark of a mature believer is a refusal to be “tossed to and fro
… with every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14). Such believers
cannot be manipulated by any teacher. They do not need to run
around, because they are feasting in green pastures, growing up
in Christ. They have learned Christ. They will not be captivated
by music, friends, personalities or miracles, but by a hunger for
the pure Word.
Paul said, “That they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior
in all things” (Titus 2:10). What is Christ’s doctrine? The grace
of God teaches us that “denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present
world (Titus 2:11-12). The doctrine of Christ will conform you
to the image of Christ. It will expose every hidden sin and every
evil longing.
Is your teacher rebuking with authority, speaking and exhorting
you to forsake sin and lay down all idols as instructed in Titus 2?
Are you learning to hate sin passionately? Or do you leave church,
still not deeply convicted? The message of the doctrine of Christ
is, “Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of flesh and spirit,
perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1).
Many write to us saying that their pastors tell them, “I’m not here
to preach against sin; I’m here to lift up Jesus.” Or, “You´ll hear
none of that condemnation preaching from this pulpit! I’m here to
lift the fear and depression off my people.” Even Pentecostal
preachers have two extremes. Some scream a hard, legalistic
gospel without love, merely of works; others preach against sin
like cowards, taking it all back in the same message.
The doctrine of Christ is a doctrine of godliness and holiness. “If
any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words,
even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which
is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting
about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife,
railings, evil surmisings” (1 Timothy 6:3-4).
The preaching of Christ’s doctrine will bless, strengthen and
encourage you, but it will also convict you so deeply you cannot
sit under it and still cling to a secret sin.
Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom.
2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling,
4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Hi John,
I’ve noticed that you and other people posting on earlier versions of this story on Gateway News readily quote 1 John 4:1 about “testing the spirits”, by way of a warning to us about these meetings.
I’m not sure if you realise it, but the fuller passage in 1 Jn 4:1-3 also tells you precisely HOW to test the spirits:
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.”
I just thought I would mention this in case anyone was assuming that they could discern what spirits are at play by looking at certain outward manifestations that may or may nor conform with our limited view of how God “should” behave!
According to the scripture only sure way to discern whether or not God is in these “healing revival meetings” is to look at the confession of Christ that is involved:
Is the gospel of Jesus Christ being presented or something else? Are people committing their lives to serve Jesus or someone/something else?
I would argue based on 1 John 4:1-3 that if the gospel of the Kingdom is being preached and people are getting saved for the first time or recommitting their lives to serving Jesus then this would prove that the Holy Spirit is at work.
This straightforward biblical test is quite cuts and dried. Most of the other criticism I’ve read seems to be based on very arbitrary personal bias derived from culture, denomination, personal experience, etc. These are hardly “tests” we can rely on.
This biblical test stands to logical reason as well: I cannot believe that the devil is in the business of scoring “own goals” by leading people to Jesus!
The way that the Gospel is being presented today is not making permanent disciples of Jesus Christ. More backsliders are being made by the way the Gospel is being presented today than permanent children of God, who will stay, remain and continue (abide) in a love relationship with Jesus Christ right up to the end.
For instance, in the above article it is stated:
“GOD TV reports that “in 49 days of Revival, 11 000 decisions have been made for Christ as the world sees a demonstration of God’s presence, power and authority”.
Nowhere in the Bible are we instructed to get people to make decisions for Jesus and then after praying a prayer to tell them that they are born again and saved from the wrath to come.
We have enough of this sort of thing already going on in our own churches and mass meetings in South Africa without importing someone like Todd Bentley to make matters even worse.

WE’VE LOST the GOSPEL

There is no tragedy in the world worse than this – the church losing the gospel. We could have a hundred terrorist attacks, or earth- quakes, or hurricanes, and it would still not outweigh the tragedy of this one thing – WE HAVE LOST THE GOSPEL. Nothing can compare to this disaster – nothing.
For when you lose the gospel, you lose salvation. People are
actually no longer becoming saved. (Remember, Paul said that
the gospel is the “POWER OF GOD unto salvation”). And when
people are no longer truly becoming saved, you also lose the church. For no true gospel = no true church.
People will tell me that I am being too “drastic”. Well, I want to say to you that I am not being drastic enough. In fact, if I were to shout through 1000 megaphones directly into your ears, it would not be possible for me to overemphasize just how disastrous and awful and horrific it is that our backslidden Western church today
has – to all intents and purposes – lost its gospel. And in doing so it has lost its very reason for being.
We tell everybody that all they need to do is say a little rote
prayer accepting Jesus as their “personal savior”. Tell me, where is such a thing in Scripture? Does such a thing even come close to existing? Can you recall even ONE person doing
such a thing to become a Christian in the Bible? Did any of the Apostles in Acts ever say to someone, “Just repeat this little prayer after me”? Or “Quietly slip up your hand – no need for anyone to see”? Can you remember ANYONE in Scripture doing anything like that?
No, you can´t. That is because nobody ever did. It is all a modern fabrication – a complete invention. -This is no salvation at all. We act like people can safely forget about CONVICTION of sin and DEEP REPENTANCE and WATER-BAPTISM and getting FILLED
with the Holy Spirit. -Just “optional extras”, eh? But look at `Acts´ and tell me – was there ever such a thing as real Christianity without these things? And what about getting a CLEAN CONSCIENCE (-washed in the blood) and KEEPING IT CLEAN? Are we ever told how to walk in THAT today?? -To actually “walk” in the washing of the blood of Jesus? To be clean, to be utterly “Clean”, to be EVERY
WHIT CLEAN?? (-The most important thing in the world). Where is this in our gospel? Where is the transformed life? Where is the “FREEDOM” from sin?
We have lost it all. Our people very rarely repent. They often go for years without baptism (-meaning, according to Romans 6, that their “old man” is not yet dead – and so they simply cannot live a new life in Christ). Read Romans 6 sometime and ask yourself this question- “If I have not been baptized, then is my old life “buried” with Christ or not? Is my `old man´ dead or not?” -This is why the apostles always baptized people RIGHT AWAY.
And then we often fail to get people `FILLED´ with the Spirit straight away too – let alone “walking” in the Spirit. Tell me, how are we supposed to have `HOLINESS´ if we have not even been filled with
the “HOLY” Spirit? Why do you think that the apostles always
made sure that people became Spirit-filled RIGHT AWAY??
Most of us do not even preach “Day One” Christianity as it was in the Bible. We have lost the gospel and we don´t even know it. We have invented a gospel of `convenience´, a gospel without the cross,
a gospel without holiness or the power to live a Christian life. -A gospel that shows no-one how to get a CLEAN CONSCIENCE or
how to WALK IN IT. I want to say to you that such a gospel is NO
GOSPEL AT ALL. And we should be ashamed of ourselves for
preaching such a travesty.
No wonder today´s church is lukewarm! The gospel is the building block upon which everything else is built. Without it we have nothing – literally nothing. It affects all that we do and all that we
are. To lose it is simply the worst disaster imaginable. So how on earth can we get it back?
Well, we have spoken about “Revival” many times on this site. But what a lot of people don´t realize is that the `RETURN OF THE GOSPEL´ was often the key that brought about the Great Awakenings – the GOSPEL being restored and preached in power. The longest-lasting Revivals always involved the “RETURN OF THE
GOSPEL”. That is precisely what was happening with the
preaching of Wesley, Finney, Whitefield, etc. And it has to
happen again today!
So “Revival” to me is far more than just a fleeting visitation. It is to be the long-lasting restoration of the true gospel – and thus the true church also. If we want true Christianity restored today, we
must first see THE GOSPEL restored. It is the most important key to it all. O God, send such a Revival! BRING BACK THE GOSPEL and those who will PREACH IT! O God, we cry out to
you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
