Top 25 Praise Songs 2017 Edition: Review

Music Review by Luchae Williams

Maranatha Music released it’s 2017 Top 25 Praise Songs compilation earlier this year. The music publisher has put together an arrangement of popular praise songs, spanning two discs, for Christian music lovers to enjoy. The collection features newly recorded masters of popular praise songs that have been performed in churches across the globe over the past year.

The album is opened with a Matt Redman favorite, “10, 000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” – a song that scored him two Grammy Awards in 2013 in both Best Contemporary Christian Music Song and Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance categories. The song, made famous by Jesus Culture, has since become an anthem.

Other popular praise and worship songs that have found their way onto the album are Tim Hughes “Here I Am To Worship” and Anthony Skinner’s “Your Love Never Fails”, also made popular by Jesus Culture.

The Bethel Music collective has also been featured on the offering with their songs “One Thing Remains” and the emotive Easter-themed track, “Forever”.

Christian music stalwart and songwriter extraordinaire, Chris Tomlin, is featured numerous times on the collection with songs such as “Our God”, “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” and the well-known anthem, “How Great Is Our God”.

The Housefires worship song, “Good, Good Father” was included and rightly so. after receiving a Dove Award as Best Song of the Year in 2016.

With songs that represent the very best of Christian music, the Maranatha Top 25 Praise Songs collection once again does not fail to deliver. With no added frills and bows, all the tracks are produced with simplicity; the vocal and musical arrangement kept as close to the original as possible. If you’re a lover of good worship music and are not perturbed by covers, then this would make a great addition to your collection.
