Uitenhage gospel artist launches debut album

Nomazotsho Mbasa Swartbooi.

Nomazotsho Mbasa Swaartbooi’s musical career may have only begun in her thirties but this gospel songstress has a long musical career ahead of her, says Eastern Cape Talent in a media release.

At the age of 35, Mbasa felt that she needed to use the talents God had given her, and put pen to paper to write some of her own songs. “I went to concerts and gospel shows to showcase my talent as a solo artist. I received a lot of positive feedback and was told that my music really did have an impact on people,” says Mbasa. “The message in my compositions is all about how you can deal with bad things that happen in life.”

She will be launching her debut album, “UJesu Uyandibiza”, in Uitenhage on April 28 at the Uitenhage Community Hall Babs Madlakane in Kwanobuhle. This coincides with the country’s Freedom Day celebrations and the long weekend held from April 27 to April 30. While many may be tired from midnight parties on April 27, Swartbooi and her band, Spirit of God, will be sure to quench their spiritual thirst the following day with the launch of her 10 track album.

Entitled “UJesu Uyandibiza” (Jesus is calling me), Swartbooi regards her album as a combination of relief, comfort, continuity and encouragement. “This album is meant for people to preach the word of God, to inspire those who have talent and dreams but are in hopeless situations, to let those who are in pain know that they are not alone,” says Swartbooi.

“Although I did not have a sponsor when working on this album, my husband, Thembikile Swartbooi, helped a lot in ensuring the success of this project” said Swartbooi. Written in both Xhosa and English, the album was produced by gospel producer Siyabonga Hlekani who has worked with national artists such as hip hop band “Teargas” and former Pop Idols stars “Jamali”.

This album is fresh and vibrant and suitable for all ages, says Eastern Cape Talent. Swartbooi’s will and determination can be heard in her songs with hits like “Imvana”, the title track “UJesu Uyandibiza”, and “You Are Worthy”.
