Big evangelism outreach in Nelson Mandela Bay gangland areas

A major evangelism outreach kicked off in Nelson Mandela Bay last week targeting the most notorious, gangster-ridden areas of the metro’s Northern Areas.

Local pastor Reuben Africa is leading a group of local pastors who are partnering with a team from Victory Outreach International (VOI), Cape Town — the campaign visionaries — and with a small army of young VOI volunteers from around the world, in bringing hope in Jesus to the streets.

During visits to some of the most-feared streets in the target area since last week large crowds gathered and young people responded to prayer, said Reuben. About 35 young people from different parts of the world are participating in this street ministry by sharing their stories of hope and using dance and drama to tell how Jesus changed their lives. 

Reuben said they have also started a process of  ministering to a hardcore gangster who asked them for help to leave the lifestyle.

He said the campaign will step up a gear from November 15 to 21 when they will be joined by more than 100 young people from around the world.

The outreach is focusing on the communities of Schauderville, Helenvale, Gelvandale, Kleinskool, Missionvale, Ext. 31 and 32, Timothy Valley, Booysens Park, Arcadia, Windvogel and Extenson 12.

They will also visit schools in the area to offer learners help in getting out of addiction and gangsterism and there will be a big, main event at the Gelvandale Community Centre on November 20.

Alton Zakay, a well-known Gospel singer who is originally from Helenvale, wiill be the guest artist at the main event which will consist of two sessions, one at 3pm and the other at 6pm.

After the campaign VOI, a global ministry that has 54 years of experience in helping troubled and traumatised families break free from the shackles of addiction. will establish a free rehabilitation centre and a base church in the city.
