IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Annual letter to our readers

Dear Gateway News Reader

The good news and the hard news!

Thank you for being part of our Christian news family!

It’s that time of the year that I send out an annual “State of the [Gateway News] Nation” report to our subscribers.

It is now nearly 13 years since I began publishing God stories online and sending out a weekly newsletter to subscribers. The vision has always been to reach as many people as possible with news that brings hope in Jesus, has a prophetic edge and gives Christians a voice. Over the years God opened further doors to reach many people via radio (weekly national news bulletin on Radio Pulpit) and a weekend news bulletin which is aired by a number of stations. Various other Christian platforms also make use of our content. And five months ago I launched a weekly Youtube News bulletin to reach those who prefer video. That’s the good news!!!

EARLY DAYS: Gateway News editor Andre Viljoen and board chairman Afrika Mhlophe visiting Gauteng in 2012 to introduce the then-young Christian news ministry to leaders in the region

The hard news is that after nearly 13 years of publishing at a substantial loss every month my wife, Val, and I are facing a financial crisis. Gateway News income comprises Super Subscriber income (i.e.voluntary annual or monthly contributions from some of our subscribers), donations and a very small income from advertising. I am hugely thankful for our small group of generous Super Subscribers and donors for their support.

I am also hugely grateful to Val, who does her best to add to our income through offering private maths lessons in-person and online. She is a hero of faith to stand with me for so long as I pursue my Kingdom news calling!

So what to do now? Common sense would say: “It’s time to pack it up. In fact you should have done so years ago. What were you thinking?!” But neither I or my prayer team believe that is God’s perspective – especially at a time when the news of the world is influencing multitudes with an ungodly narrative! We believe God will make a way. Not just to help us in our financial crisis but in our God-dream to ensure that Gateway News grows and continues to serve God’s people in the media space beyond my time at the helm.

So what can we do? Here are a few possibilities:

  • Right now I am looking at two prospects where I may be able to provide media services to other proposed Kingdom projects. These projects will, however, take time to get off the ground, and there is a limit to how much time I can give to other endeavours and still fulfil my main calling to publish the God stories of Africa.
  • I urge you, if you value Gateway News, to consider becoming a regular Super Subscriber/donor.  (See: https://gatewaynews.co.za/become-a-gateway-news-super-subscriber/
    https://gatewaynews.co.za/support/
  • Please also consider approaching others who might be prepared to join our Super Subscribers family
  • .I am looking for a corporate sponsor for our weekly Radio Pulpit news programme. This is an opportunity for a company, or an organisation. If you are interested please contact me. And if you know of somebody who might be interested please contact them.

Let’s keep on spreading uplifting, edifying news that brings glory to God.

Shalom
Andre Viljoen
