Prayer and thanksgiving event at Kouga Dam next Saturday as ‘day zero’ alarms sounded

UPDATE: This event has been cancelled due to latest Covid regulations: BUT PLEASE KEEP PRAYING FOR RAIN!!!

A call for Christians to join in a prayer and thanksgiving event at the Kouga Dam has been made by a Port Elizabeth church as the region’s largest dam is at 4.25% capacity and local authorities warn of a looming “day zero” in July when taps will run dry unless there is significant rain in the catchment area.

Wikus Nel of Doxa Deo Church who co-initiated a day of worship and prayer for rain at the dam on April 17, and is an organiser of the upcoming event on June 5, said: “Many groups have prayed for the rain in our area and there has been rain. Although our dams are still critically low it is important to thank God for His provision so far and to continue asking for more rain in order for our dams to fill up.”

For more information about the event, and to register online in compliance with Covid regulations, people should contact Wikus at 083 410 3430.

In another local initiative, Christians are invited to join a campaign of continuous prayer for rain until the end of the year, by sending a WhatsApp to Blessing Marunga at +27 78 944 1391 with the message: “persistent prayer” and their preferred day of the week to pray between 9pm and 10pm.
