Prayers lifted around world as Graham Power undergoes treatment for leukemia

Prayers are going up from all over the world for Christian marketplace leader Graham Power who is receiving treatment in hospital for acute myeloid leukemia.

The founder and board chairman of the Power Group, businessman, and leader of Unashamedly Ethical, Global Voice of Prayer and Heal Our Land initiatives was prayed for by leaders including Tata Michael Cassidy and Uncle Angus Buchan through a Zoom prayer meeting which was set up after he was admitted to hospital last Thursday.

Since then prayers have been cascading in for him from various international and national prayer networks and nations. Graham has been deeply encouraged to receive prayer voice notes and prayer videos of children from the nations praying and interceding for him.

He has an incredible and encouraging testimony. As a businessman, in 25 years he turned a little-known company that he started from scratch, into one of the leading civil engineering, development, and construction companies in South Africa and in the region.

Fast forward to when Graham gave his life to the Lord in 1999 and was immediately convicted to change the way he was doing business and ensure that integrity and transparency became the hallmark of his business. Unashamedly Ethical was born out of this conviction.

Three waves
Those who know Graham, know that he often refers to 2 Chronicles 7:14 and to the vision that God gave him in 2000, showing him three specific waves. The first wave was a gathering of God’s people into a time of repentance and prayer. The second wave was around mobilising people globally towards ethics, values and clean living — which is the thrust of of Unashamedly Ethical which promotes honesty in business and fights against corruption. The last wave had to do with Healing of the land and revival.

He is the author of the life-changing book, Not by Might nor by Power co-authored with Diane Vermooten (available on Amazon) . The book details how God instructed Graham in 2001 to gather 45 000 Christians in Cape Town to pray for the nation in line with 2 Chronicles 7:14. That event was called the Global Day of Prayer and it grew into a movement with an annual global event in which 220 nations around the world and hundreds of millions of people participate in praying for the nations. Each year, the vision of Global Day of prayer expands to include more nations. During last year’s GDOP millions of Christians gathered across the globe to pray.

Graham also serves as the Transformation Africa chairman, and is on the advisory board for Lausanne Movement Workplace Ministry. He holds leadership positions in various international networks around the world.

It was last Thursday morning that he and his family, wife Lauren and children Nadene, Gary and Alaine received the news of a medical diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. Graham was admitted into hospital for medical treatment which will initially be administered over a three week period. Treatment will include chemotherapy, blood transfusions and a bone marrow transplant. For those who would like more information on bone marrow issues please visit https://sabmr.co.za.

Christ the Hope of Glory!
Graham is taking a medical sabbatical from ministry and work. The various ministries under his stewardship are in the capable hands of Anja Letsatsi (Global Voice of Prayer); Gary Power (Heal Our land); Harry Loubser (Unashamedly Ethical) and Greg Modungwa (Tribe) and their teams.

The family requests that no direct calls be made to him during this time. Family and ministry-related issues are being handled by his daughter Nadene Benevuti and Melani is dealing with all business related issues for the Power Group.

In spite of the medical diagnosis, Graham has been in high spirits and has been sending daily voice notes out to his colleagues and friends to update them of his progress. One of the more exciting voice notes received was Graham relating how medical staff have started coming to him and his family for prayer.

We are praying and trusting that revival is about to break forth in that hospital! Psalm 121 remains Graham’s favourite Scripture and we encourage the nation of South Africa and nations at large to continue lifting up Graham, his family and his colleagues in dedicated prayer!
