The 40 Days of Prayer leading up to the Karoo Mighty Men Conference (KMMC) has always been a vital part of laying the foundations and building expectations for the conference, according to Dave Turner, one of the local organisers of the KMMC who co-ordinates prayer and intercession for the conference.
Turner encourages all those interested to participate in the KMMC 2016’s 40 Days of Prayer, which is all about contributing in spirit to preparations for the conference and developing unity, not only for the event, but the nation.
“Many members of the KMMC intercessor team are women and we welcome more women to join us in prayer from Saturday 19th March until Wednesday 27th April (Freedom Day),” says Turner.
National Day of Prayer & Fasting for Freedom
This year the 40 Days of Prayer will be linked to a “National Day of Prayer & Fasting for Freedom” on Wednesday, April 27, which is the Freedom Day public holiday.
“KMMC are partnering with a variety of Christian and media organisations to call for the ‘National Day of Prayer & Fasting for Freedom’, just two days before the start of KMMC 2016,” explains Turner.
“In the past we have found that during intercession for KMMC our prayers have never been limited to the conference, we have always prayed beyond the event and included issues affecting the nation.
“This year, as the final day of the 40 Days of Prayer coincides with the country’s Freedom Day public holiday it was on our hearts to extend the intercession for the conference and partner with others in a ‘National Day of Prayer & Fasting for Freedom’, because we know that KMMC is only one small aspect of what God wants to do in the nation.
“Our heart is for God to heal the nation and to see our nation turned around for God. KMMC equips men to return to their homes and impact the country positively by contributing to transformation based on God’s Kingdom values, starting in their families and extending to their communities, workplaces and the country.
“Through people’s involvement with KMMC, whether it be interceding for the event or attending the conference, they gain a wider vision of what God wants to do in the country,” adds Turner.
Daily Devotional
This year the 40 Days of Prayer will include a Daily Devotional that will go out via e-mail and social media with prayer updates and a message relating to the “National Day of Prayer and Fasting for Freedom”.
Forty influential Christian leaders from across South Africa representing all sectors of the country, including the seven mountains of influence in society (business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, the family, and religion), will write 40 Devotional messages that will go out daily (with the prayer updates) via email and social media.
“The 40 Devotional messages from 40 influential Christian leaders is a new and highly motivating aspect of the intercession that will inspire, teach and guide intercessors in their prayer-time, both during the 40 Days of Prayer and on the Freedom Day public holiday during the ‘National Day of Prayer & Fasting for Freedom’.
“The daily devotional messages from the 40 influential Christian leaders will also build unity in prayer among the intercessors, because we will be praying in agreement with the prepared devotionals, which will all cover a different perspective of South African society giving a broad context for intercession.
“We hope this will create a symphony of prayer and intercession for KMMC and South Africa that will resonate and impact on the need for harmonious, equitable and righteous transformation in the nation.”
Turner says it is hoped the daily devotionals will create an awareness of the call for a “National Day of Prayer and Fasting for Freedom” on Freedom Day that will encourage people to respond to the call, especially among those men attending KMMC, which will help prepare them in spirit for the conference.
Prayer groups
“KMMC is hoping for a more powerful and wide ranging foundation of prayer to be built in 2016 by the intercessor team and is encouraging people to set up prayer groups of two or more to pray at specific times, daily or weekly during the 40 Day period.
“These prayer meetings can be live in person, via Whatsapp, or via Zello. Last year the Whatsapp groups proved very popular, but this year KMMC is encouraging people to form Zello groups where real-time live audio prayer meetings can occur from anywhere in the world with just an internet connection.”
