Call for SA Church to impact nation with ‘Week of Bounty’

A Week of Bounty offers a simple, inexpensive way for the Church to show SA that Jesus is the ultimate source of peace and hope, says Willie Crew of the World Mission Centre

With the upcoming elections and national challenges such as unemployment, the impact of natural and man-made disasters, and rising costs of basic food and services, it’s more important than ever for the Church to be a visible force and offer support wherever possible, says Willie Crew of the World Mission Centre.

“This is a significant moment for the Church in South Africa to show up in a big way for our fellow citizens. It’s a chance to show up authentically and let everyone know that Jesus is the ultimate source of peace and hope, no matter what or how the circumstances turn out,” he says in a message calling on churches throughout SA to participate in a “Week of Bounty” campaign.

“I humbly ask pastors of all denominations regardless of financial or social standing, in every urban area, small town, and rural village across the country to consider organizing a Week of Bounty during Pentecost this year.( Sunday, May 19, 2024),” says Crew.

“The Week of Bounty is a simple yet impactful way to demonstrate genuine care for those in need of peace and hope. It’s an opportunity for all our citizens to feel the love and compassion of Jesus in a tangible way!” he says.

Explaining how the Week of Bounty works, he says that during the week church members should look through their homes, garages, and workplaces (where allowed) for any goods they do not use or need. Items like food, furniture, clothing, bicycles, books, cars, bibles, building materials, and much more should be brought to the church during a chosen week. Volunteers from the church then sort and pack these goods and send them to churches in underprivileged areas which in turn will give them to those in need.

“Don’t miss out on this chance to be involved in this historic moment in our nation’s history. The church must make a massive impact on every community, spreading a sense of hope and peace to our citizens,” says Crew.
