Artists and creatives from the Western Cape winelands and beyond will be getting together in Wellington for a time of mutual encouragement and refreshing at the eighth annual Artists’ Gathering from September 8 to 10.

The theme of this year’s event at the Andrew Murray Centre for Spirituality is “Placed”, which picks up on artists’ experience of occupying in-between places, and their need for godly wisdom to find their “fit”, where they are perfectly placed to serve God and each other.

Thanks to sponsorship by small businesses, fees for the event are sponsored, and various affordable options, including conference tickets and various accommodation and catering packages, can be booked on Quicket. The Artists’ Gathering programme, which includes presentations, keynote addresses, panel discussions, breakout sessions and workshops — as well as social connection opportunities — is also on the booking site.

The Artists’ Gathering began in 2015 when Heidi Salzwedel, then curator of an art gallery in Franschhoek, and James Krohn, the director of the newly founded KRUX Christian Study Centre, wanted to create a space where artists of faith can meet. {See video on origin of the Artists’ Gathering}

According to the organisers, the purpose of the Gathering “is to provide intellectually stimulating discussion in the arts and to engage with visual faith in a way that is biblically credible and sustainable” in order to equip, encourage and support artists in their vocation to the glory of God.
