The “Just Jesus Christian Counselling and Healing Conference” on April 5 and 6 at Overfflow Church, Fish Hoek, Cape Town is a call to action for churches to address their communities’ pressing mental health needs, says counselling psychologist and conference organiser Michelle Wanless

At its core, she says, the conference is about empowering churches to embody the holistic healing envisioned by Jesus, recognising the interconnectedness of mind, body, soul, and spirit for a broken world.

“We firmly believe that churches play a pivotal role in tending to the mental health needs of our communities. Our objective is to empower them with tools that embrace the holistic nature of healing, enabling them to manifest the compassion of Jesus in action.”

After exploring the alignment of scientific psychological theories with biblical teachings at a previous event, the Just Jesus conference shifts the focus to include Spirit-filled healing modalities.

“Expect two days filled with reflective worship, enlightening plenary sessions, themed panel discussions, and engaging breakout sessions. Attendees will network, share Christ-centered tools, and explore various ministries through resource tables teeming with valuable insights,” say the organisers.

Day one of the conference will unravel discussions on God and healing, exploring the integration of psychological theories in alignment with the Bible. The emphasis will be on understanding that we cannot confine God’s ways of working to a box. It will focus on healing of the whole person — mind, body, soul and spirit.

Day two will focus on two critical areas: addiction and hearing God’s voice. During the addiction session, a diverse panel of experts, embracing both mainstream and biblical perspectives, will unpack addiction as a disease. The spotlight will be on Christ-centered tools for overcoming addiction, emphasising healing for freedom from its grip. The subsequent focus area, hearing God’s voice, will delve into prophetic and inner healing, offering insights on activation through prayer and exercises.

Attendees will be guided on the transformative journey of practicing hearing God’s voice and becoming His hands and feet.

“This conference is not just about equipping churches; it’s a profound opportunity for all attendees to be ministered to,” say the organisers. Each session will include dedicated moments for prayer and ministry. Resource tables will showcase tools and ministries available for personal or organisational use, creating an enriching environment for networking and exploration.
