Carols by Candlelight at PE stadium

The Rotary Club of Algoa Bay is hosting an interdenominational, family-styled “Carols By Candlelight” evening at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth on the evening of December 15.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Voices choir, Word of Faith Choir, Buli G, Gino Lee, Seki Mandada, Donna Afrika and Thuba Myeki will sing hymns and carols on the outside steps of the stadium. The audience will congregate on the paved  area inside the stadium grounds at the Prince Alfred Entrance.

The organisers have arranged the event on the day before the official opening of the season with the idea of attracting both local people and holiday visitors. They hope that it will become an annual event on that date and will eventually grow into an occasion comparable with the annual Kirstenbosch “Carols by Candlelight” held in Cape Town. They aim to use local performers only.

“We expect between 1000 to 3000 people and entrance will be via a prepaid ticket of R25 for adults and R20 for kids,” said spokesperson, Gillian Pillay. Tickets are available through the Word of Faith Church 041 399 4400, and BizBox:Contact Michele or Gillian 0n 041 586 1616 or 083 508 8667. Proceeds will go to Rotary and be used to support community projects in the Nelson Mandela Bay area.
