SA singer-songwriter Chané Beeselaar spoke with Gateway News on the eve of the launch, on Friday, of her debut album Jordan. See the lyric video of the album’s lead single, Jordan below and discover more about this adventurous artist in the Q&A interview
Gateway News: Who are you?
Chané: My name is Chané. I am a South African singer songwriter. And I want to share the story of my journey. Since I was nine years old I’ve been writing songs. I would even wake up having dreamt of songs in my sleep. In the year 2021 my life completely changed –my first official radio single, Speak, was released. My dream was becoming a reality. I was offered to be signed to a record label, a dream come true. But with this decision came compromise — compromise on my faith and the kind of songs I would write for the record label. So I decided to stay true to pursuing my dream. I decided not to sign the deal. I had no money, no job, and little support after Speak was released. But I had my faith. So I sold my car, bought a cheaper car, and used the money to continue pursuing this dream. It was a time when my limits were constantly tested. But during this time I found my passion in life. And I started writing songs again. It become my biggest desire to continue creating and moving people with my songs and art. And despite opposition, I never gave up on my truth and what I knew God has called me to do. Today I stand testament that dreams do come true. My music continues, and I’ve reached thousands with my songs and story.
Gateway News: Who inspires you?
Chané: Being a tenacious person, I have always believed in my dream and worked hard at never giving up. My brother has been my greatest role model and inspiration alongside the pursuit of my dream. Joshua has muscular dystrophy, a terminal disease. He can’t walk, he can’t feed himself, and he can’t do what most people can do. But Joshua has faith like a mustard seed; he believes nothing is impossible. I have faith for Joshua, faith that God can heal him. And despite his constant pain in life, he always encourages me to keep doing what I love. My testimony of having my dream of doing what I love come into fulfilment wouldn’t stand if it wasn’t for my inspiring brother.
Gateway News: What makes you tick?
Chané: Give me a beautiful wild mountainous landscape, an endless sky to paint, a warm cup of coffee, and I find myself overflowing with inspiration. I am daring and always ready for adventure. So, when there is an opportunity to travel or explore I love seeing the world and the beauty in it. Meeting new people is always a joy, and I love listening to people’s stories.
Gateway News: Tell me about taking part in Miss SA?
Chané: My journey in taking part of Miss SA 2024 was a wonderful experience, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it. I entered in to raise awareness of the amazing talent in South Africa. My dream is to encourage and help those with a dream and gift to have their talent nurtured and released. To be heard and let their unique sound come forth. This is the beauty of South Africa. I never went through to the top 30, but taking part made me realise what my purpose and mission is. It made me more confident and more focused. I am grateful to have all the support from my family and friends. And I learned that I will always stay true to my truth, that I am strong and work well under pressure.
Gateway News: Are you married?
Chané: Yes I am married now for two years. I am privileged to say I married my best friend. We both love music, and going to studios together. We love fast cars, and want to travel the world.
Gateway News: Do you have kids?
Chané: No I don’t have any children, although I do love kids.
Tell me about your life?
Chané: I love art and creating new things. When I’m not writing songs, you can find me with a paintbrush in hand. Nature is my safe place, as I grew up mostly on farms. I am a bit of a nomad, and love moving from place to place. I’ve traveled with missionary work, to countries like, Philippines, Costa Rica, Panama, Mozambique, Namibia, and others. I am currently also pursuing a degree in ministry, and have been studying in class and online for the past three years. Having been brought up in a Christian home, I have always served in the church through worship and ministry. It is something I love doing. Another part of my life is my adventurous side. I have some crazy stories of my travels.. I’ve been in very dangerous situations, and also some awe-inspiring moments. From getting lost in San Jose for three days, to travelling forgotten islands in the Philippines, reaching people that have never heard of Jesus before, I always love the unforgettable and beautiful moments of life. My most recent story is when my husband and I traveled to Zanzibar for our honeymoon. We were travelling uncharted beaches when we were confronted by a man at knifepoint. He mugged us clean of all our posisessions, and stole our new phone, clothes, jewellery and other valuables. We had to walk a whole day to get back to the nearest town to get help. It was a very real and uncomfortable situation. Thankfully, he never took our passports or wallet, as we could get a taxi back to our guesthouse.
Gateway News: What are you trying to achieve with your music?
Chané: I want to pioneer a new sound in the Christian music market. I believe God is wild and beautiful, His sound isn’t limited to our imaginations. I want to reach as many people as I can with this gift and these songs. I also work with the young people in South Africa in their gifts too, and want to help nurture and listen to them as new songs can be created from such talent. I believe that the young people of South Africa have a unique sound that needs to be heard. And I’m excited to help in any way with worship and songwriting initiatives in South Africa and to encourage young people to keep pursuing their talents.
Gateway News: What can we expect from you next?
Chané: In addition to the release of my new single, Jordan, I have applied my far-reaching creativity to various projects of musical appeal. I have been working on songs and lyrics, which will be featured in my debut album. My debut album, Jordan, will be available on Friday the 28th of June. CHANÉ AND HEMELBESEM RELEASE NEW SINGLE JORDAN
Chané is releasing her brand new lead single to her Debut Album, titled and announced Jordan. Packed with rousing anthems that resonate, Jordan is a culmination of freedom and truth that encourages a strong message of liberty.
Neither Chané or Hemelbesem are strangers to this type of project. Hemelbesem’s best-known collaboration is his “Pampoen” with Steve Hofmeyr, “Bedoel Vir My” with Francois van Coke and Nicole van Rensburgand, and “Donut Tamatie’ with Emo Adams.
In celebration of today’s release we take a moment to dive deep into the message behind this song. What inspired this song from these two artists was the message of sanctification.
“The peer pressure young people are going through to uphold purity is utterly convinced – we wanted to share the truth of hope and freedom where lies and doubt have crept in. We want to send a positive message for our generation that’s going to listen to it.”
Thrilling, unapologetic and liberated, Jordan is an anthem for all to walk in freedom and choose to live in purity. Written by Chané and Hemelbesem – the duo share a strong conviction on the topic of identity alongside the certainty that the truth will set you free.
In addition to the release of Jordan, Chané has applied her far-reaching creativity to various projects of musical appeal. She has been working on songs and lyric ideas which will be featured in her Deb
