Thousands of Jesus followers answered a call to gather at Loftus rugby stadium in Pretoria on Saturday for a time of fasting, prayer, repentance and worship at an event called The Return.
The call was put out by Christian musician Joe Niemand just 9 days before the gathering by sending personal invitations to a limited number of people via his personal phone. There was no big marketing campaign promoting The Return — just a call for God’s children to glorify Him by gathering “with no agenda, no demands, no showmanship and no one representing us, other than Christ Himself”. The purpose of the gathering was to return South Africa to “the King of Kings”.
Remarkably, months before the gathering, Loftus and Blue Bulls Rugby Union management took the unusual decision to change their match schedule to make way for the Jesus-honouring gathering on a day and at a place which Niemand said had been determined by God.
The gathering on Saturday was on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). a sacred day of fasting observed by Jews worldwide. On the same day, on the National Mall, Washington DC, USA, more than 250 000 people— mostly women —participated in the A Million Women: Day of Atonement Solemn Assmebly, reports Thrive News. At the same time, an estimated 10 million people worldwide tuned into live streaming of the gathering which was called to pray for revival, restoration and God’s intervention in America and the world.
Lou Engle, a prominent organiser of the event. said that for over 500 days, prayer warriors and organisers had been gearing up for this very moment, sounding the alarm and calling the nation to repentance and unity.

How wonderful,God is in control. Praise His glorious name.
Let us take this reaching out to the townships, the affluent and resourceful church, and be all embracing and encompassing in our love one for another. The church divide is sadly still far too great. O come Lord Jesus.
