Almost a year ago I reported how God used a pastor in Sierra Leone and an evangelist in South Africa to minister to young people in Sierra Leone who were addicted to the killer drug, Kush.
Suzanne Pillans of Step Out in Faith Ministry, who was based in Gqeberha, SA. at the time, recorded a warning about the dangers of Kush, followed by a short Gospel message. And pastor, Emmanuel Bobor, began playing her messages over a loudhailer in the city of Kenema in Sierra Leone. Many addicts came to Jesus and expressed a wish to come off the drug. The ministry partnership bore fruit and Step Out in Faith Ministry donated 70 loudhailers so that the outreach campaign could be replicated in other parts of the West African nation.
Now, Suzanne, who is currently based in Oxfordshire, England, says she and Bobor are still partnering in the battle against the synthetic drug, which is devastating Sierra Leone and other parts of West Africa. She says many young people are turning to drugs because of poverty and unemployment.
Bobor is still reaching out with Suzanne’s recorded messages and, in response to the current situation in the country, he has changed his ministry’s conference centre into a training centre where he brings people who want to come off drugs. The ministry team shave newly-arrived addicts heads to remove dirt and lice. They also bathe and clothe them and accommodate them at the centre.

The recovering addicts are then trained up in simple jobs to give them a way to earn a living. Currently 46 people are being taught to sow. Ten sewing machines were bought for this purpose. Another 246 people are learing Farming God’s, in Segbwema in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Suzanne, who learned Farming God’s Way from Grant Dryden, a pioneer of the poverty-breaking agrcultural model in Gqeberha, teaches the system in a weekly radio programme broadcast in Sierra Leone.
