Crosswalk Africa evangelist Reini Coetzee has reached Tanzania, the fifth country in his mission trek from Cape Town to Jerusalem.
Wheeling his wooden cross from Malawi into Tanzania at the Sengwe border crossing on Sunday was like entering a “new spiritual gate”, he said, referring to the unique spiritual atmosphere he experiences in each country.
He thanked God for his time in Malawi where he said the people lived up to their nation’s reputation as the “warm hearts of Africa”. “They have a love for and fear of God.” He also marvelled at the orderly way that pastors and leaders from the Evangelical Association of Malawi and The Way Of The Cross partnered with him from village to village, town to town and region to region, all the way across Malawi. He also expressed gratitude to Louise Laubscher of Fishers, Trainers and Senders Ministries who connected him with the men and women of God who saw to his needs and facilitated ministry opportunities throughout Malawi.

A highlight of crossing from Malawi to Tanzania was a flag ceremony when he was handed over to his Tanzanian welcoming party. He said that in Tanzania God is once again using somebody to “open doors” for him: her name is Amelia Korda and she is the daughter of veteran African missionaries. Reini said the border handover “was a prophetic act that took place between two nations: taking hands spiritually. I am trusting the Lord with every step that I take that He is uniting believers to stand firm against evil and unrighteousness, and bringing change to Africa”.
He said while he had seen signs along the road of the evil influence of witchcraft he had also seen “so many salvations, healings right in front of me, and also deliverances”.
“And I have seen many men and women of God who are rolling up their sleeves and saying: ‘We will put our hand in the plough and just move forward to make a difference.’”

Some of his first impressions of Tanzania include “vibrant people” who are “so excited to see the cross”.
Yesterday, during a time that he was invited to minister at a church in the Kyela district about 1.5km from the border post, he was struck by the people’s hunger for prayer and their passionate worship. “Time and time again I just see in the spiritual realm that Africa is singing a new song. You know, Heaven needs our worship, and that is what they’re doing – worshiping this amazing God that we serve with everything in their being.”
He said: “I’m trusting that the cross will speak a message of healing, hope and love to the nation. My prayer for Tanzania is for forgiveness and reconciliation.”
Reini said that since arriving in Tanzania he has been dealing with paperwork regarding his time in the country. He said he expects to resume his crosswalk on Saturday. “I’m not sure how everything is going to happen in Tanzania, but I don’t think it’s going to be like in Malawi. Maybe the Lord wants something else to happen here.”
