Parliament yesterday agreed to extend the deadline for public submissions on legislation around land expropriation without compensation from today to February 29.
The ad hoc committee to initiate and introduce legislation amending Section 25 of the Constitution met yesterday to discuss provincial public hearings which it was agreed will start in February.
The ACDP was the only party to object to the proposed programme for public hearings which included public hearings on Sundays, says ACDP MP Steve Swart in a statement released yesterday.
“We stated that many people are in churches on Sundays and consequently will not be able to attend and participate in the public hearings.
“The decision was taken to hold hearings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The ACDP encourages all to try and attend the publc hearings when the are held in your provinces (details will be furnished) as well as sending written submissions to Parliament — email: section25@parliament.gov.za
“Let us also continually pray about this very contentious and emotive issue.”
