EDITORIAL: Last week to have your say on health regulations that threaten your freedoms

South Africans have until April 15 to comment on draft health regulations which, if passed, could effectively plunge our country into a permanent state of disaster in which the health minister can drastically limit your constitutional freedoms without any parliamentary oversight.

One positive that is coming out of this is that Christian leaders are uniting in the face of a common enemy despite the usual theological, cultural and other issues that continue to divide the Church.

Certainly, in the 11 and a half years since I have been publishing Gateway News I have not seen such common purpose in the Body of Christ as leaders across the spectrum are calling on their constituencies to have their say through the official public participation process.

Church leaders who are strongly pro the Covid-19 vaccine, and leaders who are passionately against the vaccine are united in opposing the health regulations which they see as posing a far-reaching threat to our freedoms today and to the freedoms of future generations.

Updated video for church services
Freedom of Religion South Africa have made an informative 3-minute video about the health regulations which they have urged churches in SA to screen during services this Sunday. You can download the video here: https://youtu.be/l9yJ9hHRQmQ

Christian lawyers say that if the government decides to push the regulations through despite the public outcry, a massive number of official public submissions opposing the regulations will provide a strong foundation for challenging the regulations in the Constitutional Court.

This means that the next week is a crucial time for having your say. Every submission counts. You may make more than one submission. You can find more information about the draft health regulations on the Dear South Africa website as well as an easy tool for making your submission. It takes just a couple of minutes.
