Experiencing the Holy Trinity — Vivienne Solomons

This week as part of Holy Week, our local church congregation has gathered at our venue every day to reflect on the significance of this special time in the life of every believer.

On Tuesday evening, we had an opportunity to spend time at three different stations to contemplate each of the three persons of the Holy Trinity – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The mystery of the Trinity – one being existing as three persons – while not easily explained, is evident throughout Scripture even from the first book, Genesis:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

Here, the Hebrew word for God is “Elohim”, which is the plural form of the word “God”. It is used throughout the Old Testament together with the single form of the verb “created”, which is “bara”.

From this we see that God is both three and one at the same time. This is the mystery of the Trinity.

As I sat and prayerfully contemplated the Father, then the Son and then the Holy Spirit, which was beautifully facilitated by being in a room set up for that purpose, my relationship with each one came into focus in a way that I had not experienced or even thought about before.

For the first time in my Christian walk, I found myself in a situation where I intentionally considered each person of the Trinity in the context of the Cross, and all I can say is that I am forever changed.

Words simply fall short when describing the depth of the Father’s love for us, the consequences of Jesus’ sacrifice for us or the extent to which the Holy Spirit is involved in our day to day lives.

This weekend, as you spend time with family and friends, may you find a moment to reflect on these things.

Happy Easter!
