‘Redeeming Love’ in cinemas from this weekend

The life-changing story of the power of unconditional and all-consuming love, Redeeming Love, will open in cinemas nationwide on Friday January 21.

This touching romantic period drama and bestseller by Francine Rivers tells the story of relentless love and perseverance as a young couple’s relationship clashes with the harsh realities of the California Gold Rush of 1850.

Redeeming Love is locally distributed by Filmfinity Pty (Ltd.) and had its official South African premiere at Nu-Metro Hyde Park @numetrohydepark on January 19.  It was a spectacular moment when local stars in the movie, Daniah de Villiers, Clyde Berning, Brandon Auret, Lauren McGregor and Milton Schorr appeared on the red carpet.

From New York Francine Rivers said in a Tweet:  “Exciting news!  #RedeemingLoveMovie is releasing in South Africa this Friday (the same day it is releasing in the US). We shot the movie in this beautiful country. Many of the crew and some of the cast were South Afircans. We can’t wait for the rest of the world to see it, too!”.

Other South African actors that can also be seen in the film are Tanya van Graan and Stephen Jennings and in addition the film marks a second collaboration between producers Cindy Bond and Simon Swart.

The two main characters are played by Abigail Cowen and Tom Lewis and they are supported by a stellar cast, including Famke Janssen, Eric Dane, Logan Marshall0Green and Nina Dobrev.

Since its publication in 1991, Redeeming Love  has sold over three million copies and has been translated into 30 languages. Retelling the biblical story of Hosea, it centres on the unlikely relationship of Sarah, who becomes known as Angel and Michael Hosea. Sold into prostitution as a child, the now 18-year-old is a beautiful and in-demand woman in a rough and tumble prospecting town in California. Michael, on the other hand, is a farmer and man of faith. Through their relationship, Angel discovers there is no brokenness that love can’t heal.

DJ Caruso was the director and he wrote the script with Rivers.

Redeeming Love  shows what God’s perfect will is for our lives – untainted and unobstructed by what the outside world dictates.
