Gospel musician Esihle Siwela talks about his life and new single ‘Ingeyakho’

Esihle Siwela

In the Q&A interview below Gateway News finds out more about the life, faith and dreams of KwaZulu-Natal Gospel musician Esihle Siwela and about his new single Ingeyakho

Please can you tell us more about your spiritual background and relationship with God — where does it all stem from?

Singing has always been my first love. I started on this journey at primary school level doing choral music. At High School level, I discovered my passion for Gospel music and in 2018 decided to pursue a career in Gospel music and never looked back. God has opened so many doors and I believe God is using my talent to open people’s hearts to worship Him. God has been central in my journey. My inspiration is God — I receive so much strength from Him. I am also my own inspiration because life growing up was not easy. I have been through some tough times and my belief and trust in God has pulled me through difficult times. He gives me strength and hope for the future.

I was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KZN. I was born to the late Gloria, who tragically passed away when I was only four. I never knew my father growing up and was raised by his mother’s older sister who sadly passed away last year. I completed my matric at Oxford College in KZN. My  family is extremely supportive and plays an integral part in my journey throughout life.

When and where did you discover your gift of singing?

Have you worked with other gospel artists? If so, which artist(s)?

Up to now I have performed solo but I am looking forward to working in collaboration with other artists in the near future be it on stage or in the recording studio.

What was the inspiration behind your latest single Ingeyakho?

The song is about giving God the Praise that is due to Him, exalting His name. “Siyaphakhamisa” means “We lift You up, we exalt Thee “. “Asizenzisi” means “We are not pretending” — we are prompted by Worship and Praise. God blesses us within which encourages us to glorify Him and Him alone. Writing the song was not difficult as I was given the message by God. I really enjoyed bringing the song to  life by arranging the backing vocals and my lead vocals. I also enjoyed the excitement of being in the studio and seeing it all come together. It was amazing!
