Joy To The World, is the first Christmas album by worship leader Lincoln Brewster.  He is a Dove Award nominated worship leader who is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.  This album features some seasonal favourites as well as three of Brewster’s own tracks.

This album debuted at #1 on iTunes Holiday Music Top Albums chart and also reached #1 on CMTA’s Praise and Worship chart.

‘Joy To The World’ starts the album off.  In this track the melody is the same but musically Brewster adds some of his own sound with wonderful guitar solos and orchestral strings. ‘Little Drummer Boy’ is a highlight with guest KJ-52.  Drums are brought to the fore and with the rock feel this is more upbeat than the original.   ‘Shout For Joy’ was co-written by Brewster, Paul Baloche and Jason Ingram. It starts with strings, a beautiful choir and ringing bells.  The mood of the song quickly builds with the drums and electric guitar.

‘Our God’ penned by Matt Redman, Christ Tomlin, Jesse Reeves and Jonas Myrin is added to the mix.  New arrangements of other favourites such as ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’,  and ‘O Holy Night’ can be heard.  Brewster purposefully set out to do arrangements that hadn’t been done before, with a more rock and modern edge to the sound of the carols.

‘Miraculum’ is an instrumental that I enjoyed and is most definitely the highlight.  It incorporates ‘Carol Of The Bells’, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’, ‘We Three Kings’, ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel’ and ‘O Holy Night’.

If you are a fan of the festive music, you will not be disappointed.
