Hundreds of pastors, church leaders and servants of God from across the Free State and surrounding areas attended an urgent strategic engagement hosted by South African Church Defenders (SACD) in Bloemfontein yesterday.
At the meeting SACD leadership “led critical discussion around attempts by the CRL Rights Commission to introduce measures that many church leaders believe could lead to the regulation of churches and interference in religious freedom”, says SACD in a press statement released today.
Describing the meeting as an “overwhelming success”, SACD says the turnout demonstrated the growing concern among Christian leaders regarding threats facing the freedom, independence, and integrity of the Church in SA.
It says key outcomes of the Bloemfontein engagement were::
- Strong unity among Church leaders
Pastors and church leaders stood together with one voice, reaffirming their commitment to defend the autonomy and biblical mandate of the Church. - Education and awareness
Leaders were educated on the current developments surrounding Section 22 processes, church governance matters, and the constitutional rights of religious institutions in SA. - Provincial mobilisation
Structures and communication networks were strengthened to ensure churches across the Free State remain informed, organised, and ready to engage on matters affecting the Christian community. - Resolution against Church regulation
The gathering strongly rejected any form of state overreach presented as self-regulation and unconstitutional regulation of churches that threatens religious liberty. - Commitment to continued engagement
SACD committed to expanding these engagements across provinces, ensuring that pastors and
church leaders remain empowered, informed, and united.
