JULITA EXPLORES: So grateful for the gold in my hand

A monthly column in which Julita Kok shares on living adventurously with God

This past month I again saw what happens when God’s people pull together and fix their eyes upon Jesus and not themselves. It is a beautiful thing to watch. I always say that we sit with each other’s solution if we only open both our physical and spiritual eyes, ears and hearts.

Those of you who read my column, will know that I travel the world and meet so many people — people God brings across my path and I build relationships with. In these days it is all about the God connections — who God puts on your path. In my case, it is people from all spheres of life — wealthy, poor, successful, less successful, thin, fat, white, black. It truly does not matter who they are, but if God allows them to cross my path, my eyes and ears are wide open for what needs to happen. As you can imagine, by now, I know hundreds of people all around the globe and I have a broadcast group with all these people. They are nearly 1 500 people by now. One day, as I was typing a message, I suddenly understood that this is the gold in my hand — I have a network of God’s people right here in my hand.

And over time, I have tapped into this network for different things — mostly connections as I travel and prayer covering.  Absolute GOLD. So this past month there were a lot of challenges among some of the people in Africa who I met on my journey. Let me share.

  • Smart from Malawi had to get his wife and child over the border of South Africa back to her family.  She needed papers and money for transport.
  • There is a little school in Zambia which carries my name and I found out that the children have no more food. They will only be eating one meal on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • The baby of Oscar, the founder of this little school, got very sick and ended up in hospital.
  • Lawrence from Uganda lost his job nearly a year ago, had to send his family away to a village and tried to survive in Kampala.  Most days he had no food, and the police came and told him to pay $1 200 on his rent arrears and he was just overwhelmed. He also ended up in hospital with malaria. I tried to pay over food money, which I have done many times, but every time over the past month the transaction got cancelled and I could not get money to Lawrence (an amazing worship leader) at all.
  • Gift, also from Malawi, living in South Africa, got jailed because his papers were not in order.
  • Many people reached out who have illnesses ranging from malaria to heart conditions, asking for prayer.
  • In Uganda a friend with a little orphanage had no more food for the kids.
  • In South Africa, there were two families who truly needed help, and so I can go on.
  • A pastor in Malawi urgently needed a laptop to use to earn some money on the side.
  • And a bicycle ministry in Zambia was in need of more bicycles for the teenagers, to keep them off the streets and spread the Gospel of good news by bike.

Too much for me, but not for God. So, I go to my broadcast group and asked them to pray. Oh boy, how dangerous it gets when the children of God start to pray. Especially if they pray in one accord.

So, end of this story is that everyone has been sorted except Lawrence in Uganda. He still needs help and mostly a job, but we are trusting for his breakthrough. With him, it feels that it is a God thing. Sometimes we give the enemy all the credit, but sometimes it is God at work shifting things into place. Lawrence is in that process.

But for the rest — Smart’s family is safe and sound. Gift got released the next day and he is in process of getting his papers. Oscar’s little boy, Thabo, is running around as if he was never on the brink of death.

The kids at the Julita/Oscar School are eating one meal every day; the orphans in Uganda were able to eat every day and all feedback from the illnesses was good — no deaths as they thought might happen. The pastor got a laptop, and the bike ministry was able to buy two more bicycles. The families in South Africa could continue, and all gave glory to God.

Now of course, this happened because God is a good father, but He needs hands and feet on this Earth. And when I called on my Christian brothers and sisters to start praying, things started shifting and money started coming in and challenges got sorted and sickness fled like nothing else — all because the children of God picked up their authority in Christ and started handling things in the Spirit and then on Earth. It was a beautiful thing to witness, and to not have all of this on my shoulders, but have it carried by many, absolute an awesome, safe feeling. I could only thank God for all His children who took up their authority and ran with it. Prayers are gold. Always.

So maybe you also have gold in your hands. A circle of people around you who will help carry the burdens. People who will pray with you and stand with you, and together, you can change the world, little by little, until it becomes a lot. Never underestimate the power of one single prayer and just imagine if one prayer can be so powerful, how about when many start praying. Such great power in Christ.

There is a little song which I simply love: “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of this earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” I again experienced it firsthand this past month — looking towards Him; He working in the hearts of His children to open their hearts, and miracles happen.

Imagine if we can pull together all over the world like all these organisations standing against the good of this earth. They come together with their bad agendas and things happen. Imagine if the children of God would do the same. I think we saw a little of this over the past two months. And in times to come, we are going to need each other. We will have the solutions to each other’s challenges.

I am so thankful to be part of this God network — His network, building His Kingdom right here on Earth — people not just talking about Jesus, but showing Jesus to the world. Thank you.

May we continue to do good. Proverbs 3:27: Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act; Matthew 25:40 (Jesus speaking): Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me, and then one Scripture I love: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers (Galatians 6;9-10), and then this mind-blowing Scripture in Ephesians 2:10: For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Hebrews 10:24 tells us this: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

So I want to leave you with Hebrews 13:16: And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. It is not about doing the good deeds only, but bringing people Jesus by being good and kind to them and helping to carrying their burdens. One prayer for someone can change their lives.

Let us not get weary in praying for others and helping them on this challenging way. I have seen in one month how many lives were touched and changed by praying and being the hands and feet of Jesus. If every Christian does this……Imagine!!
