The Kairos Network (KN) — an association of Dutch Reformed Church members committed to preserving biblical truth — had “historic meetings” in the past week with “key players in the reformed world” in SA and abroad, said KN chairman Dr Anton Knoetze in a press release.
According to the press release the discussions identified opportunities to cooperate in future theological training opportunities and congregational care — especially in rural areas.
Knoetze told Gateway News that he felt encouraged by “the fact that people from a reformed theological foundation expressed a desire and the need to take hands on many issues while continuing our separate congregations”.
Previously the KN has indicated it is exploring an option to unite like-minded groups in a new, independent synod.
In an interview this week Knoetze said: “We are looking forward to the 21st and 22nd of July [the dates of a family gathering of like-minded Reformed groups at the Afriforum Theatre in Pretoria]. We honestly believe we will come to some decisions there. I think at the moment we are interested parties. I think that the time becomes more and more ripe where we will move in a more formal structure.”
He said the Alliance of Reformed Churches in America is expected to make a submission to the July gathering. He said in talks with them this week they shared that they had separated from their historic church group “on exactly the same grounds as us — theological training, sexuality issues, biblical understanding of marriage and the issue of the synod trying to exercise authority in an unbiblical way”.
He said he believes the Kairos Network will continue to grow as more congregations and individual believers “realise what is really going on”.

The simplest solution for the future is to guard the belief of candidates for the ministry. Good training then careful examination before ordination vows.
Eventually setting up a new Seminary would appear to be the advice from history,
Calvin, Knox, John Murray and the Free Church of Scotland, Andrew Murray, and when Princeton became liberal, Gresham Machen and Westminster.
Every seminary in past history has departed from its allegiance to Scripture.
