Renowned Christian singer, songwriter and worship leader Kim Walker-Smith is touring South Africa in June with nights of worship lined up in Cape Town (Missio-Dei, June 13), Johannesburg (Christian Family Church, June 14 ) and Pretoria (Lewende Woord, Brummeria, June 15).

Tickets for these events — the passionate US worship leader’s first appearances in SA since she toured with Jesus Culture in 2018 — will be available on iTickets from Friday.

Her SA trip corresponds with a new season in her life in which she has just released her first single, Boxes, since leaving Jesus Culture and California three years ago and moving to rural Montana where she is currently living with husband Skyler Smith and their three children. A stirring, anthemic declaration to step out of boxes of limitation to freely pursue and rely on a God who cannot be boxed, the song is a prelude to her upcoming new album, Under the Big Sky.

In a video clip in which she speaks about her new season, the former Jesus Culture lead singer said it was a “really hard decision” to leave the band and movement she had been an integral part of for more than 20 years, During that time Kim touched millions of lives with her powerful and heartfelt rendtions of such memorable songs as How He Loves, Holy Spirit, In the River, Waste it All, Spirit Break Out — and many more.

But she says she believes “God pushed me outside of all of that and brought us up here to the wilderness, to the unknown, to live under the truly the big sky and to just be completely reliant on God”.
