Life, a mere vapour — Angus Buchan

We have just said “goodbye” to one of our children, from the children’s home, who came to us as a young baby, and she has died and gone to be with Jesus.

The Scripture which the Lord has laid on my heart for the memorial service is Psalm 116:15 — Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints.

We realise again, that this life that you and I are living in at the moment is very, very brief and its only when we lose loved ones, that we realise just how short it really is.

Peter Marshall (the man who said you must have faith like potatoes), was the personal Chaplin to the US Senate. He was a young Scotsman who went across to America, became a preacher and lived a very short life. He died at 47 years old, but he had an incredible way with words. He told his congregation, you must have simple faith, faith like potatoes and we have taken that quotation as well.

He said: “Those we love are with the Lord and God has promised to be with us, so if they are with Him and He is with us, they can’t be far away. Isn’t that beautiful?

We need to remember that if we, at this time are mourning because of the loss of a loved one who’s gone ahead of us.

Then I heard another quote that goes like this: “Knowing that you will be there makes it easy to go home.”

May the Lord be very real to you, may you start to dwell more on heavenly things than this brief earthly life which passes by so quickly, in which we are living at the moment, because when we go to heaven, we will be there with Jesus forever.

Jesus bless you
