Jesus said to his disciples before He ascended to the Father “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Mathew 28:19).

Pastor Mafemani Rivers Mahumani in his late forties from Giyani township in Limpopo province has listened to the commission from the lord and has descended on street corners of the township to preach the gospel. He does so inside taxis and buses waiting to carry commuters to their destinations.

He does not need a large auditorium to preach; nor a loudspeaker, tent or any other equipment to get the message out. He says his voice is enough.

“I wake up everyday and after a serious encounter with the Lord go and deliver the message of hope to the hopeless, troubled and discouraged,” he says with a smile at passers-by who know him as the taxi rank pastor.

He is well-known at the taxi rank where commuters listen to the Word daily before leaving for their destinations. He prays with and counsels nearby street vendors, sometimes praying for favour upon their merchandise.

He preaches about holiness and encourages men and women to stay pure in their marriages in order to attract the favour of God.

‘’I do so because the devil is against marriages, so we must emphasise the need for holiness in times like this,” he says as he mops sweat from his brow with a handkerchief.

‘’I also pray for the sick, the drunkards and any troubled soul. But my focus is soul winning  because the bible says we must first seek the kingdom of God and the rest shall follow. I quote Jeremiah 15:19-21 which promises deliverance and protection to those who return to God.

Greater Giyani Mayor Pat Hlungwani says Pastor Mahumani’s street ministry is bringing light to families and to the wider community. People from all walks of life have experienced restoration after meeting the dynamic preacher.

The taxi rank preacher has his eye on launching his own ministry, the Bethesda ministry in Giyani and surrounding areas.

‘’Although I am still under Bishop Wiseman Maswanganyi,I feel in my spirit that I have to launch my own ministry to reach many more people”.

Practicing what he preaches about marriage he is married and he and his wife, Martha are blessed with two children.

“She [Martha] is supportive of my calling and quest of winning souls,” he says.
