Matt Redman ‘Let Me See Jesus’ tour in SA next week

Matt Redman, who has penned many of the worship songs we have been singing in church for the past 20 years, will be leading worship nights in Cape Town and Pretoria next week.

The Grammy award-winning worship leader and songwriter will also be inspiring SA worship leaders and songwriters at daytime Wor/Th seminars.

The name of his tour, “Let Me See Jesus” is the title of a new song he recorded last year for his live album Coming Back to the Heart. It also echoes his heart cry for worship leaders, song writers and worshipers to move beyond the music to beholding Jesus during times of worship.

In a recent interview with Brad Kirsten he said Let Me See Jesus is “a song that’s been important for us in this last little season because so much of this is about seeing and not singing — so much of it is about beholding.

“In Scripture, I think it’s roughly around 1 300 times it says ‘behold’ — and it’s a big part of the life of faith. And it’s a big part of worship. So I guess that’s a prayer for the evenings. Let us see Jesus, let us behold Him, let’s encounter Him — because when we do, a whole lot changes.”

Redman, who has written songs like 10 000 Reasons (Bless the Lord), Blessed Be Your Name, The Heart of Worship, Better Is One Day, You Never Let Go, Let Everything That Has Breath, and many more – says that he and his band which is touring with him will include both old and new songs in the mix at the worship nights.

Alan Frow, a South African who leads a church in California, and is an author, worship leader and songwriter, will join Redman in presenting the Wor/Th sessions. The name Wor/Th comes from WORship and THeology, explains Redman. “So, that’s what the days are. They’re about worship and theology. They’re about thinking ‘how can we make sure that we’re portraying and conveying God as beautifully and biblically and powerfully as possible in our songs and services?’

“I think sometimes we can think so much about the sound and the arrangements and the production and all that stuff, and that’s good. But I think really there’s something more important than that, and it’s thinking about actually presenting our God in the most true way that we can, and so that’s what these days are about. It’s about coming back to the heart of worship — but coming back to the mind of worship too.”

Reflecting on this training part of his SA tour, Redman said: “I don’t think my main job is to help people to sing. I think my main job is to help people to see, and so that’s kind of a quite a big entrustment of worship leaders to help people form their view of God.
