Men’s Stories: Holding onto God’s promises in darkest time

Thys Meades makes custom knives for international clients. He has participated in gruelling cycle races; he’s a former surfskier, powerlifter and bodybuilder; he’s an active family man. In a recent podcast chat with Ethan Black of KingfisherFM he shares how he went to bed one night after a normal busy day, and when he got out of bed the next morning: “I couldn’t walk, and that was terrifying.” You can listen to the podcast below in which Thys shares his scary and faith-building experience with deep vein thrombosis.

Thys Meades

During this journey he discovered something unique about his body as well as something remarkable about it that probably saved his life. He speaks of how a word from the Lord shared with him by a friend who did not know about his health crisis became an anchor during that stormy time and convicted him of the importance of sharing prophetic words that God gives us for others. He also speaks of how God restored hope in his heart by speaking to him clearly through Isaiah 40 — 30Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. Thys, who is still counting down days to full recovery, says that his discharge from hospital felt like a miracle: “And I left there just feeling so grateful for the love of God, for my family, for the mercy of God towards me.”
