Nominations open for 9th Crown Gospel Music Awards

crown gospel awards 2016Nominations for this year’s 9th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards are now open. The closing date will be on September 30 2016.

This is a call for gospel industry troupers, i.e. singers, producers, promoters, writers, managers, radio stations, TV stations, etc, say the organisers, World Gospel Powerhouse.

The main event will be held on November 27 2016 at Durban’s ICC. The organisers aim to surpass last year’s successful Crowns — especially with the accomplishment of the first Trumpet Africa Gospel Music Awards held in May which saw gospel artists from different African countries sharing the stage and contending for the award (The Trumpet).

The number 9 signifies time to push, time to give birth and a time for a new beginning, say the organisers. They say that symbolically, as the World Gospel Powerhouse bring the ninth offering of The Crowns, the level has been pushed to new heights and is nothing short of a new beginning.

“This year will see the inclusion of international gospel acts, addition of unknown and untapped talent and as a norm, the audience will be dancing to popular tunes. Also, this year’s Crowns will be preceded by a Christian Expo on November 25 – 27, whereby anything and everything Christian can be exhibited. More details are available on 031 303 3520, from the founder of The Crowns, Zanele Mbokazi.

This year there are 39 categories, compared to last year’s 36. Added this year were, Best Traditional Gospel Album, Best Gospel Jazz Song as well the Salt Awards, which last year was only bestowed on an individual as earmarked by the panel of judges.
